For the kickoff of National Surveyors Week the Mass. Assoc. of Land Surveyors and Civil Engineers will be holding a Rendezvous on the Boston Common from 10am until 4pm.

We will be exhibiting new and old equipment at the Parkman Bandstand.

If anyone has some further ideas for "survey games" please let me know. We will have guess the angle and guess/pace the distance, but I'm running out of other simple games that the general public might enjoy!

If you're attending please let me know!!

Mass. Surveyors Rendezvous

How about setting a point and get good GPS coordinates on it. Then let them use a handheld and compare one to the other.

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. Typing class 9th grade!

Don,

I am hoping to be there. I may need to work so don't count on it. Do you have a variety of instruments to show? Feel free to email pls.mass AT gmail.com.

I do have a chain (100' Steel Tape) for throwing, as well as an engineers chain with 1' links. I can still throw a chain, well really a steel tape without a reel. I learned done TN way, and then when I moved here (MA) all the chains were on reels!!!

Don you should break out the MALSCE "master tape" and everyone can check their tapes against it. The last time I saw it, it was behind the furnace on the garden level at TEC.

How about having a total station or transit with a solar filter and right angle eyepiece (only if sunny) and tell the public after they take a peak they can "feel the earth move under my feet". Or maybe i'll have my daughter stop by on way to work (lives in North End works at Charles Playhouse) and ask someone what "box it" or "your other left" means.
This also may give me an excuse to head up and see her and stop by.
