I noticed that my auto spell check in Mozilla shows an error when I try to type realtor. Mozilla tells me it should be Realtor, with a CAPITAL R.

engineer is okay

doctor is okay

lawyer is okay

surveyor is okay

but when I type realtor, Mozilla puts a red squiggly under the word.

What's so special about Realtors?

They're special because they have the ability to perform property surveys without taking any measurements.

You would not spell "god", it's "God".

The term "Realtor" is copyrighted. Not all real estate agents are Realtors.

Mozilla is right. Pat May educated us all about this a few years ago on the old board: "Realtor" in fact is a registered trademark (hence capitalized), and it technically refers only to members of the National Association of Realtors, non-members of which are just plain real estate agents. "Real estate agent" is such a clunky term that I suspect "Realtor" will one day be considered generic and "de-capitalized," but it hasn't happened yet.

There are licenses for real estate salespersons and real estate brokers. A test must be passed, etc. much like applying for a surveying exam. There is no test to be a Realtor@ because it is a matter of membership, like joining NSPS.

Realtors@ resent laypeople referring to any real estate worker as a Realtor@, just like licensed surveyors resent the guy you hire to watch your base station being called a surveyor.

A broker asked me to lower my bid.
I asked if he would split his commission.
He said no.
I said that I had a $100K in my equipment.
He replied that he had a Cadillac and a hammer to pound in his sign!!!

If you call yourself a "Land Surveyor", "Registered Land Surveyor" or "Professional Land Surveyor", it should be capitalized.

did you mean "Realtor©"?

The @ symbol should be reserved for surveyors I think.

Don't forget Texas we like to cover all the bases with - Registered Professional Land Surveyor - as opposed to the UnRegistered Professional Surveyor or maybe the Registered Unprofessional Land Surveyor. I miss the RPS Registered Public Surveyor.

Try to tell a Realtor that good, cheap and fast don't all fit in the same basket. It'll blow their heads off, and thus you won't have to deal with them anymore.

The approach that will make you happier is to not do surveys for Realtors or their lesser cousins real estate agents at all.
