Survey vest recommendations?

I've had my current vest only a couple of years. Have had to stitch it up numerous times from where my stake hammer has worn a hole through the inside pocket, spikes and just about everything else seem to be leaking out of new holes as fast as I stitch up the old ones. Some how I thought it was a bright idea to wash the thing. Turned out the dirt was the only thing holding it together and now I'm in the market for a new one, but think I'm going to avoid the cotton canvas materials, they just don't seem to hold up, especially when working in the rain. Just wondering if anyone knows of a more durable well made vest that has secure and well designed pockets. Any recommendations?

TIA & TGIF. Have a safe and fun 4th.
Williwaw over and out.

I have one of these: http://www.engineeroutfitters.com/vest-info.html Those pics don't show the 2 big inside pockets mine has. I got it maybe 10 years ago from a Eugene, OR supply house. It's a quite heavy cordura type material. Much heavier/stiffer than a Seco 8265 I also have. I give both vests little use, but they'll surely outlive cotton/canvas in normal use. The Precision Outfitters one is sure to be heavier and warmer to wear in the summer. I'm not necessarily recommending the business I linked to, but the vest might be worth your consideration. I've sent an email to the same folks who sold my vest to me to see if they're still making them and if the site I linked is legit. I'll post what I hear.

Thanks Baja. The link you posted looks promising. One of the issues for me is fading of the bright color from sun and rain. It's a bit insidious. Wake up one morning and realize my vest is turning gray faster than me.

I would say pockets are important, like Baja's vest, I wear the Seco 8603 for the number of pockets you can squirrel stuff away in.

Although it doesn't meet ANSI specs, I remain partial to the Filson blaze orange cruiser vest. So partial that I just bought 4 spares on eBay!

I got no response from the current Eugene, OR entity called Precision Outfitters. This page on their website tells their connection with Med-Tech, which I recall was the parent company of the supply house I bought from: http://www.precisionoutfitters.com/testhorse/dist.html . You might try corresponding with engineeroutfitters.com. Good luck.

The problem for me is getting one that the robot doesn't lock onto

This is the best one I have come across for the price. Lasts a couple of years, but at that price it wouldn't matter if it fell apart in 6mos.

I like the padded collar and the zippered back pocket. Not perfect, but again, can't beat the price.

PS - I have seen other places sell this one for double.

I have a precision outfitters vest that I really like. The only complaint is the reflective tape flakes off a bit. Mine is about 10 years old too and needs replacing. I remember a while back checking into their website and hitting a dead end. Thanks for the link. This isnt the same web site I stumbled across.

I wear this:
http://www.engineersupply.com/seco-8265-class-2-safety-utility-vest.aspx

It's expensive, but outlasts the others I have tried.

The one by ML Kishigo at Hivissupply.com is the same thing, but thinner and cheaper. It will get holes in it faster. (I have owned both, and I had the first Seco one for about 3-4 years before it got a hole in it)

Pricey, but here's what I wear.
I'm not a fan of zippered vests so I was glad to find a good vest with a button closure. It has lots of pockets and a "smart" liner that keeps you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

I second this vest. Lots of pockets!
