Well I finally got around to buying my Stamp. I went with a local company (RW Engraving in Biddeford, ME). It was pricy, but this behemoth is HEAVY. The embossment on paper is clearly legible on a 1 7/8" die.

Do you also have an ink stamp? Just curious about legibility on documents and such.

If in doubt about it being legible, you can brush over the embossing with carbon paper.

I have a heavy duty long reach style for sealing Mylars. From the back of the seal to the front of the support there is 2-1/4 inches of clearance. Roll up the sheet and I can pretty much stamp anywhere on any sheet. Does take a lot of pressure to imprint Mylar - cuts too much into regular bond. Different seal for those.

maybe it is just a regional thing, but i have never had to have one. i have a rubber stamp for each state i am licensed in and that has been all i have ever needed.

I created a CAD file of my seal making it "to scale". I add it to all of my drawings in a somewhat grayed out format. I then seal right over it. They gray stamp line work makes the embossed imprint really stand out. Works great on mylar maps.

I have an embossing (crimp) stamp for the three states that I am licensed in. I have only used them a few times.

One place of employment we would wet stamp the drawings, and emboss the property descriptions, but once I was on my own, I started just wet stamping the descriptions as well. Easier to fax, scan and email, etc.

Looks like you could stamp a 3/4 inch sheet of plywood with that thing.

Two of my states require an exemplar of your embossing seal on file along with your signature. The others are satisfied with a rubber stamp seal. 😛

Now THAT'S a stamp!

The only embossing stamp I've ever had is a mere toy in comparison.

Maine requires an embossed seal; I don't believe Ink is accepted anymore.

Some guys will buy those gold leaf insets to help with legibility.

I usually just lightly dabbed my finger on the stamp pad and lightly brushed
the raised seal with my fingertip.

I don't know anyone that uses an embosser like that.

It baffles me what purpose it serves other than it seems to be traditional in some markets.

Does the company you got the stamp from still make buggy whips, too?

Electronic signatures... catch the wave.

In Tennessee we will have to get the board to make some changes before electronic signatures will be legal.

(Rule 0820-4--.08, continued)
(2) The registrant shall stamp with his seal, all maps, plats, surveys and other documents issued in the course of his land surveying practice.
(3) The registrant shall superimpose his signature (not a rubber stamp) and date of signature across the face and beyond the circumference of the seal on documents to which his seal is affixed.

I have a wet stamp, but most of the time I plot my seal with the drawing and sign over the seal with a blue pen. Electronic signature would be handy in a lot of situations.

You have to keep reading, Stephen...

0120-02-.08 SEALS.
(8) (a) Subject to the requirements of this rule, rubber-stamp, embossed, transparent self adhesive or electronically generated seals may be used. Such stamps or seals shall not include the registrant’s signature or date of signature.
(b) Subject to the requirements of this rule, the registrant may affix an electronically
generated signature and date of signature to documents; provided, however, that the
registrant utilizes a secure method of affixation and provided that the registrant does
not authorize any other person to so affix his signature and date.

Please send me the link for that excerpt. Being wrong would greatly simplify my life.;-) The excerpt I posted came directly from the Board's Rules of Professional Conduct. I've also checked Tn Code Title 62, Chapter 18, Sections 101-128.

Edit - I found the excerpt, unfortunately it's from the Architects and Engineers Board Arch & Eng Board Rules. I would like to learn more about electronic signatures and how the security features work. I will use the language from the Arch & Eng Board rules to suggest changes to the Surveyors Board.
