Todays project was to establish a astro north bearing for another surveying company whose client wants their house within one degree of an east/west alignment.

Out of several ways that I could think of doing it I took the easiest and set my GPS receivers on their traverse points and gathered data for an OPUS reduction.

How's your horizon?

Meanwhile, on the beach below:

A "Soft" solution with the GPS at the top of the slope.

This particular piece of property was just purchased for $2.5 million. So if you ever wondered what a million dollar view was, here it is, twice over 🙂

Check out N41-44-37.05 W69-58-03 for the location. It's in Little Pleasant Bay, South Orleans, MA

Nice, Don. It's one of those days that makes you glad to be a surveyor, huh?

Must be an architect involved!

I wonder how close to your tolerance you'd be by just using a shadow mark?

Azimuth:
Grid?
Geodetic?
Astronomic?
Magnetic?

I'm thinking of putting a compass rose in my deck,
with all the declinations in it...(except true 😉 )

If you put all of those on your deck you'd still be wrong.
