"Using new technology, Major’s successors discovered that the border continuously meandered north and south of the true 42nd parallel. Despite that, most of Major’s original survey is still used today to designate the Oregon-California line. "
The SCOTUS ruled on the California-Nevada boundary. The States agreed to enter friendly litigation then they told the Court which boundary to use and the Court said "so ordered."

State of Jefferson
The state fire department would be Jeff-Fire, I'm just sayin'.
Graduates of the University of Jefferson would be known as Jeff Grads.
I recently retraced a portion of Major's line just West of I-5 (131M - 132M 76.5 ch.).
Along with champagne bottles, Major would also deposit deer antlers or "bones" in pits as witness to the mile posts he established.
