Okay, I want to see this happen. I met up with a few surveyors a few years ago to participate in a shootout between the Trimble R10 and the Javad LS. Time for the second Episode: M60 vs. SX-10.
Ideas for scenarios:
Comparison of specs and setup procedures
Full Dome Scan time, resolution available, time to scan, distance, etc.
Ultra Fine scan for polygon of target at 1000', time and results
4 setup scan at busy intersection
Use as Robotic Instrument to traverse through 5000 LF polygon
Trigonometric Level Run
This wouldn't be some sort of highly scientific review, but a basic comparison with daily workflow.?ÿ

@brad-ott Yup, I will admit. I love this stuff way too much.

I would bring a MS60 to the party but sadly the two I have are both too old to get the more recent drastic 30x improvement to scan speed.?ÿ On paper the newer model MS60's should produce a very good head to head matchup.?ÿ My biggest gripe is the picture taking process and how slow that is.?ÿ Has Trimble figured out how to speed that part of the scan process up??ÿ?ÿ
C'mon down to Las Cruces.?ÿ Ill ask the trimble rep for a new unit and we can get er done.
I cant exploit city resources.?ÿ So I'll ask the rep.
?ÿ
If we tie it into the Survey engineering and geomatics class and get some young kids interested even better.
New Mexico isn't producing surveyors fast enough.......

That would be interesting. Too bad I am on the other side of the world. Finally something that is more attuned to real world than just marketing videos...
Slow does not begin to describe the photo process on the MS50.?ÿ At least when you are using the CS20.?ÿ When you are scanning do you store the data on the gun or the CS?
Per the recommendation of my dealer, always on the gun.?ÿ I run my control traverse from the CS20 then transfer the job to the gun and scan from that job.
I would love to capture panoramic images from each conventional setup but given the time to acquire and transmit to the CS20 it never happens.?ÿ I whish they would allow me to store the images on the gun similarly to how you can store raw GNSS data to the GS unit.
Did you publish the Trimble vs Javad shootout?
Might want to keep your intentions on the DL, if you intend to tell anyone else about your shootout. The manufacturers of survey equipment seem to go to great lengths to fend off published and useful head to head comparisons.?ÿ
I know of people doing these sorts of tests, but haven't seen any real testing (I mean stringent and reproducible testing) that has been published. We know the manufacturers do it all the time, but they never tell.?ÿ
I think it is because there is little difference. So, the name brands have zero reason to publish that there is no difference between brands other than workflow because it robs them of their marketing angle. That is my uniformed opinion at any rate. (Rate being free for this.)?ÿ
Yes, it is on the forum here. Just search for it...Javad LS Shoot out, it should show up.

Surely you jest?
No way id believe that the monopolistic single sourcing-like yellowseafoamgreengreybluewhite monoculture equip manufacturers are in bed with not letting customers compare in real time in vivo situations where results of the tests matter....
...end dripping soaking sarcasm....
Probably a lawyer involved there somewhere.
