Sandvik Blade Popped Out

A month or so ago I purchased a Sandvik Brush Axe. It was awkward at first, but I soon grew to like it. It is a great tool. Looking at the machete safety thread back in June, I am even more impressed.

Until today.

The blade popped out.

The instructions are pretty simple: put it on a stump, slide the blade in on the end close to the handle and hit the other end with a thick branch to force the blade into the head.

That is not working for me.

Any suggestions from one who knows how to get the blade back in?

Thanks in advance,

Ken

Been a while since I've used the sanvik (awesome piece of equipment) but my memory tells me you had to put the top end on first then hook onto the end close to the handle as you put some weight on the top end to compress the "c" a bit.

Yep - it takes some weight, you have to compress the frame a bit so the pins slip into the notches...

My advice is to throw the thing as hard as you can off of the tallest canyon edge you can find.

Go buy a good bush-hook. 10 times more versitile.

Get the straight handled one. Way good tool.

Interresting reply -

I purchased the Sandvik after using a brush hook for 40 years. The hook is still better for the rose thickets and for cutting stiff weeds like goldenrod, or phragmites, but the Sandvik is smaller, lighter, easier to carry and it works great in light wooded stuff, which is where I am working now. Each tool has its place.

Try "Goop Glue" when you reinstall the Sandvik Blade. I bet it will not pop loose on its own anymore. This glue works great for installing the handle on a brushaxe also. I have had my favorite brushaxe so long now, and sharpened it with a angle grinder followed by a flat file so many times, that now it has about 1/3 less mass on the head and is perfect for cutting most anything that I am willing to tackle.

Jared's on it -- you gotta find away to compress the "C" a bit -- the trailer hitch on my SUV works great -- you can hook the head of the axe into it with the "C" open facing you,i.e. up. & with the head (top) of the "C" bearing against the hitch. Then you can pull the axe - handle up to close the "C" just a little bit --then you can drop the blade right in. Then whack it against a stump to seal the deal.

Ultimate Surveyor's Cutting Tool

I hate those things. Heavy and only a small blade. Machete's are better - much lighter, and longer blade.
