Have you ever been laying out some grade on pins while a compactor is vibrating in the vicinity ?
This does affect your staked out grades accuracy , right ??
no matter what type of gun ?
The short answer is yes. The only thing I know to do is ask them to go somewhere else.
If what you're lookin' at is bouncin round then yes, if not, then no
never let a contractor run one of these things within a hundred feet of your instrument. ask them to move or tell them to cut the unit off when they get too close

I am in command of 2 survey crews both on focus 30 accuracy of these gun is very good , but it happen twice in the same project that when i do a random spot control i found some large errors in elevation. and not consitant errors it likes covers an area and then goes back to normal , i noticed the compactor running on that area and i thought this possibility . Will notify that when we area working no compactor vibrating near our work area..

In my experience, it is the surveyor that needs to adjust their methods to fit the contractor. I just switch set ups.
I dont have any problems getting this request met. They understand it every time. I actually include it in my comments during the pre-con meeting.
Any vibe functions render the ts unusable. In these cases, just ask the vibe operator to roll static only, with no vibe. Be polite, tell him how long you are going to setup there.
With vibe off, they have to roll it lots more times, but they still look busy to their boss.
Depending on the soil, I have had the total station go to crap when the vibe roller is still 250 feet away.
The obvious problem is instrument stability, however another problem can occur with set hubs. Vibrating compactors and heavy traffic will settle set hubs by a considerable amount even though the traffic or vibrator are several feet away. Hubs set in sand will settle a surprising amount with almost no apparent vibration nearby.

It hasn't happened to me very often, but it has happened.
I always like how someone finds some old hub, picks the lath up off the ground, rubs the muddy tire tracks off it, and builds the thing. Then, when it is out 0.05' they ask me why I can't survey anything.

I won't let them run one of those things anywhere near the gun, be it a TS or just a level! I don't like any machinery near me!
It is a matter of, do they want you on the jobsite to actually do your job or appease their wants and needs of getting you there.
We must be allowed to do our job property for the required results they desire.

robotic total station here would be the best of the best. talking about my country.
I remember the Trimble spiel about the S6 a few years back that claimed that it could handle a situation like that.
Something like the compensators measuring the error multiple times a second and applying that to the measurements.
No idea how well it worked though.
S6 wont handle it, although it will adjust quickly when the vibration stops. resetting isn't always an options, especially in the likes of gas plants. Just refuse to work till they are out of range. Someone will act.
Set your TS up and have the vibrator drive around it a couple times. Then check your set up. My bet is that you are no longer over the point and your backsight is not indexed the same. Your height may even be different. I would never trust any set up where the vibrator has been within 200 feet of the gun.
