Phone rings Saturday morning at 9:30. Elderly woman calls and is complaining that the "coordinates" from a 34 year old survey don't match the GPS on her son's phone. The son gets on the phone and a pointless conversation keeps going from there.
God, please help us and just let me get to retirement more or less sane.
oh wow..lol, my comment would be I can convert them for you for xxxx dollars....I dont bother educating people.
Why Did You Have Coordinates On A Survey 34 Years Ago?
Just wondering.
You really should have used GPS back then.
By the way, 34 years ago GPS was the acronym for "Go Pound Sand".

Why Did You Have Coordinates On A Survey 34 Years Ago?
They weren't coordinates - they were bearings and distances. He didn't know the difference.

That's what I was figuring was going on- it's amazing the faith people put into their new technology...
Coordinates On A Survey 34 Years old is common..
Just because someone might find it interesting...
Around here, there was a survey of the PLSS circa the depression, and all the section breakdowns were published using NAD27 coordinates.
It is very common for there to be coordinates on old surveys around here. I wonder how many people type them into their GPS units?
(Rarely is there a datum note that says NAD27, it usually just had a KCAS after it, if anything.)
That is terrible. Thank you for sharing. Turns out I am having a good day afterall.
Thank you for making my day Mr. Ingram, "retirement isn't as bad as I first thought.:-)
haha....don't forget the geocacher that figured out that the sw corner of Colorado was in the wrong place. That went national with the newspapers.
Here is a good one...This is a station near where I live that I used to use as GPS control in the pre-HARN/pre-CORS days.

and here is the image to prove it:

SANE? Hell, most surveyors are insane to begin with, aren't we? 😉
Should have told him to simply enter the code into his handheld that converts 2015 to 1981. That's 7734.40. If that doesn't work on the first try, hold the unit upside down and shake it sharply three times, then look at the screen again.

That's one to send to your local low-baller "competition".
Not that I would ever do that.
Tell him that if that number doesn't work try 370455V, using the same procedure.
😛
I am happy to see that I am not the only one getting that kind of call!
The correct code is ID 10 T
It's really too bad that NGS doesn't have the staff to monitor this kind of BS...
