My stock response for the last 25 years when people ask me why I got into surveying... "for the groupies"?ÿ?ÿ
A few years back one of crews consisted of an old bachelor and his two grown sons.?ÿ Their appearance left something to be desired at times.?ÿ I tried to keep them on jobs that consisted of deep woods but sometimes that wasn't possible.?ÿ I had them on a sewer survey that required them to hop through folk's residential back yards.?ÿ They carried city contractor IDs and business cards in case anyone questioned their presence.
An elderly lady called me.?ÿ Some men were in her yard and they had given her my business card.?ÿ She was wondering if they were credible or not.
I asked her, "Do they look like a bunch of pirates?"?ÿ?ÿShe concurred.?ÿ I told her, "That's my crew.?ÿ They're OK if you can get past the tattoos".
She was apparently satisfied and thanked me for my time.?ÿ 😉

Did he have a lot of fun when he was young but simply never married any of the mothers of his children?
The boys definitely had the same momma.?ÿ Don't know what happened to her, never asked and she never came up in conversation.?ÿ All three men lived in the same house with a large dog.?ÿ I'll try to say this nicely...a blind man could trail them through thick woods, in the rain.
Best crew I ever had though.?ÿ Hand 'em a work order, give 'em tools, a truck and wood and you'd get back top notch results with good notes.?ÿ?ÿ
I remember once I was going over the cell phone bill.?ÿ I noticed their crew phone would call the same phone number every night (even weekends) about the same time, around 6:30 PM.?ÿ Just slightly curious I called the number.?ÿ It was a pizza delivery shop around the corner from their house.?ÿ
The next day I had to ask if they had pizza every night for dinner.?ÿ They all shook their head yes.?ÿ Then I asked if any of them ever cooked.?ÿ They all just laughed.?ÿ I'm sure there was a story there but I didn't want to hear any of it.
Pizza sounds good.
