can't you smell that smell

if you have ever been in GA in the summer you will identify with this.

i passed a construction site this afternoon. they are clearing and grubbing for a new ramp for the interstate. in GA we have mainly pine trees. the smell of fresh cut pines and fresh turned earth on a large site combine to make a very distinct fragrance that can overpower an area for miles around. i was reminded that i haven't smelled this in a long time. since the down turn not much clearing has gone on around here. especially on a scale large enough to stink up the whole area. i have missed it. it is the smell of progress. the smell of men working. the smell of money.

i wasn't lucky enough to have a crew on this project, but i am glad to see my bros working. tree guys, truck drivers, equipment operators and a bunch of other construction types were busy this afternoon. it was good for the soul to see such a site. i hope it is a sign of more to come. i am optimistic that we are through the worst part of this mess and brighter days are ahead for us all.

Has the pollen gotten started yet? Around here we're getting a good bit (my nose is running now), but the pine hasn't started yet. Things turn plumb yellow when the pine kicks in.

Where is the new interchange? Valdosta?

Andy

I'm not that far from you AB. 575/Rope Mill Rd. No pine pollen yet but it is coming. I started my Zyrtec doses early this year.

I think of the same song after the Budweiser Clydesdales roll past me at a Mardi Gras parade.

Here in Bradenton, we have a number of distinct smells at different times of the year! Right now the pollen is so high from the Oak and Pine trees! But soon that will be overpowered by the Orange Blossoms! The salt air from the breezes off the Gulf of Mexico is a very distinct smell. But the one that nobody ever forgets is the smell produced by Tropicana when they are brewing orange juice!

By the way, love that Lynyrd Skynyrd song! 🙂
