I know there are a few posters and lurkers from Kentucky, so I thought I would share some of what I learned at this years conference. Due to scheduling, I was not able to attend the entire conference.
1. On Friday, there was a course in the morning sessions about the revisions to 201 KAR 18:150. The main point was to draw attention to some notable changes in:
GPS usage
Monumentation
Disclosures on Non-Boundary surveying work
see "Whats New" on the boards website and scroll to the bottom.
2. On Friday afternoon, there was a Licensure Board Panel Discussion. The revisions to the Standards of Practice were discussed further.
Also discussed was proposed changes to 201 KAR 18:192. The board has suggested removing the optional step of having a continuing professional development (CPD) course pre-approved. For more information, see "Whats New" and click on the January 2011 Board Report. Page 2 of the MS Word document contains the details.
There was some pretty heated debate on this matter. If you have opinions and/or data supporting either position, you should make your thoughts heard by submitting suggestions on the matter. You may submit suggestions and opinions either directly to the board or to KAPS. KAPS is collecting all opinions and suggestions submitted to them in order to have a complete package to submit to the board. Please submit suggestions to the new KAPS President - Don Pedigo.
3. At the panel discussion, the board members indicated that there was a request in to the state for funding the printing of a new Standards manual to replace the blue manual you received with your license (or after). They also indicated that the state is trying to move away from paper copies, so the best method might be to download from the board website. Here is a link to the pdf version of the new manual:
Current Version of 201 KAR 18:150 and 201 KAR 18:200
Thanks, Jon, didn't get to make it this year....a lot more discussion to come I'm sure...
Thank you Jon. I would have liked to have been there.
