We've been filing "Certified Corner Records" in Oklahoma since 1978.?ÿ These can be invaluable when retracing previous surveys....sometimes.?ÿ
While this example is a relic of days past, there are still a number of surveyors around?ÿthat place minimal info on the records,?ÿ leaving a lot up to the imagination if one or more of the references is missing:
But there are also articulate and proficient surveyors that understand properly re-establishing a land corner in the future can require a good amount of info.?ÿ Here's an example of such:
While the surveyor that prepared this latter example no longer works regularly?ÿin Oklahoma; he left us some fine records to follow.?ÿ I just wanted to give him a good ol' Okie pat-on-the-back.
Thanks Mark. ??ÿ
Doh!!! Reference 5 seems to be mis-described.
Thanks for the kind words.?ÿ

Hardly noticed that 'til you mentioned it.
We'll let you slide this time. ??ÿ
Am reading and learning.....
I was just now wondering, what does Oklahoma require for "well staking", and what is a normal cost range? Would I file corner records if applicable? I'm asking this because I have been offered a few, and need to know how to respond with my Oklahoma Hat on.?ÿ

I'm pretty sure that you will find a 1/2" rod with a Lemke control cap at that location.?ÿ

You may file an OCCR on any monument, anywhere in the state. You are only required to file one on PLSS recoveries/restorations which are not found exactly as noted on the last OCCR.?ÿ ?ÿSo if you surveyed a well you would not have to file one on the well location itself (but you could), you would likely be obliged to file on the various section corners you tied in the course of said survey.?ÿ
Board mandated minimum practice dictates that a map of any survey be prepared for the client. But it doesn't require that it be recorded anywhere.?ÿ ?ÿ

Why were the bearing choices on the older one limited to True and Magnetic, and the newer one Grid and Magnetic.?ÿ Aren't both True and Grid reasonable choices in this age of GNSS and computers??ÿ And Magnetic would seem less desirable.

Makes sense to me, Bill.?ÿ Magnetic? Really? In practice 99% or more of these are done with RTK on State Plane and their really isn't much call for anything other than grid. So nobody really gets past that to the true v. magnetic issue.
?ÿ?ÿ
I still use magnetic in some cases. After walking up the mountain I set and record accessories while the unit cooks static. Beats walking 3 hours down to fiddle with a radio...
The Golden Rule: Describe for others the way you wish for it to be described for you.

This covers so many?ÿareas?ÿof Surveying.
I really appreciate a completely and accurately filled out OK CCR.?ÿ?ÿI?ÿreached out to KSLS about updating the KS LSRR form to include the "description of original monument and any subsequent restoration" portion, but did not have any luck.?ÿ In my opinion,?ÿthat category helps follow the?ÿhistory of monuments at that location and hopefully ties?ÿthem back to the original monument.
I personally prefer to use grid bearings these days, but have used magnetic in the past.
Kind of a personal favorite:
If you look in the Oklahoma Statutes; for a definition of minimum, they use that PDF...
?ÿ
Often when working in the "Mountains of Oklahoma" when searching for corner a lot of us old guys take off searching with a 100' fiberglass tape, a machete and a Sunnto Compass so that why most of the older records have magnetic bearings ?ÿ

To be fair, PLS 1342 deserves a couple of Brownie points for at least filing something. The law is widely ignored.

So, what's the story with ordering corner records from the Department of libraries? I know there is a $5 filing fee, but is there a fee for copies? And how do they send them to you? Fax, email, snail mail? I've been using HubTack to get copies but sent in my first request to the library because HubTack showed no CCRs for the Township Corner.
You would probably be well to just contact Hubtack and ask them to check it out.?ÿ But it's not all that unusual for there to be no CCRs at all on a corner, Township or not.
So I asked the same questions to the Department of Libraries inquiry form on their website and received a reply that they do charge $0.25 per record, they inoice monthly and the fax the forms.?ÿ This brings up another question - where the heck is our fax machine?! I think I have it tracked down to accounting on the 3rd floor, but they must all be out counting or lunching so no CCRs yet.?ÿ
Also with regard to hubtack, apparently they do not have all the records online. I think you wouldn't be doing your due diligence if you failed to check with the Department of Libraries.
Accounting found the files in their spam folder. The library had records for both corners that HubTack did not have. Lessons learned.

That is true.?ÿ Hubtack doesn't get their copies until the DOL posts them.?ÿ
In the past few years they seem to be pretty caught up however.?ÿ I had one (from Hubtack) the other day that was only?ÿtwo weeks old.
I had a neighbor friend here in Norman, Christine Bittle (you might have seen her signature at the bottom of recorded CCRs), that for a few years was the "hmfic" for the DOL when it came to copying and recording the incoming CCRs.?ÿ Christine is retired and gone now.?ÿ Initially she detested Hubtack because their purchase of records required her to copy EVERY newly filed corner, package them up and mail them.?ÿ I have seen 4 or 5 full manila envelopes on her desk..."waiting" to be mailed to Hubtack.
She's probably been gone over 10 years now.?ÿ Like I said, the State keeps up with the new filings fairly quickly...but there is a lag time before they show up on the private websites.
