Found another one today ... believe it or not, it was same surveyor as before, who epoxied the disk to the water valve cover. This one is epoxied to the top of a utility pedestal, with a removable top, that is now leaning about 10 degrees.
That's funny. I mean, he did set it.
One time I tied into a fence corner, (back in the total station day) We drove a nail into the tree, at about 5-1/2 feet up, into the side of the tree, and shot the head.
Fast forward, 6 mos, another surveyor comes surveying the adjoining tract, and we shared info. Took him a while to find the nail! We had sent him a copy of the field notes, and he finally found it. Just like the notes said.
He simply had not thought to look there.
It is not really good practice, to set a glue on mon on a Tel Riser, or Elec riser, but the client will always be able to find it... until the riser gets replaced or whatever!

It's rusted out on the bottom, I stood it up straight and shot it, then it slumped back over. It was good when it was straight up. I set a 3' offset rod down the property line.

And hit a water line, and they charged me 1200.00 for the loss of water! (OK, I just made that part up, but it seemed to fit!) You do it right, and PAY for it! 🙂
Now now, I just made that part up!

Not the best way to set a corner, part II>Hey Ranger!
Are you in a state that requires corners to be set on every survey?
Is this guy doing this to make a point? A passive aggressive protest?

I always like to disagree. Though it has it's problems, I think epoxied disk on utility boxes is an excellent way to set corners. I find if offset corners are set, they are too often taken as the actual corner and cause no end of grief and problems. Sure they may get damaged or mislocated, but the same can be said of any corner monument set. I have not set an epoxied corner to date, but will probably do so in the future.
OK, no prblem. What about fire plugs? and that turney thing, on them that turns the water on and off?

I have never had a corner fall on a fire plug, it could happen. I have never had one fall on a telephone pedastal. It could happen. I have had a lot fall on top of transformers. Tempting to glue a disk to them. Not sure how the power company would feel about that. I have had several fall inside water meter boxes and set capped iron rods...carefully...inside the same.
Lot of discussion lately about informing and educating the public on what surveyors do and what we charge. I can just hear the landowner talking to his neighbor and at the coffee shop "I paid $XXXXX for a survey and the surveyor set a point on the top of a pedestal that I can move around! I think today I'll push it over and gain 6 inches".
