This should be a MUST ATTEND event for most everybody.
Webinar Describing New Coordinates for NGS CORS Nework Sites
On Friday, February 25, 2011 at 1300h-1430h EST, NGS will host a webinar
focused on describing the forthcoming change in coordinates (position and
velocities) for CORS sites from ITRF2000 epoch 1997.0 and NAD 83(CORS96)
epoch 2002.0. The new coordinates will be available in NGSTRF08 epoch 2005.0
and NAD 83(CORS96A) epoch 2010.0. The underlying datum for NGSTRF08 is
based on ITRF2008, but the positions are calibrated for the impending
release of IGS08 (+igs08.atx). In this webinar, we will describe the:
- methodology used to establish the new coordinates
- magnitude of the coordinate changes
- implications for post-processing applications outside of NGS.e.g. holding
CORS with fixed positions and use of absolute (vs. relative) antenna
calibrations
- time-frame for the distribution of coordinates
The presentation will be short with an extended period for participants
to share concerns and ask questions. This will be the first of a regular
series of presentations on this transition.
The presentation will be given by Giovanni Sella and Jake Griffiths,
and is open to everyone.
The meeting will be via GoToMeeting via the following link

Call in number will be available shortly

Will this be archived in case we cannot attend?
Thanks for the reminder, Loyal. I hadn't looked at the schedule in a while...I hope it is going to be archived.
Detailed Information on ITRF2008 in JofG (open access)
This message was copied from a recent IGSMail:
For your information, a detailed article on ITRF2008 is now
published on line in Journal of Geodesy with an Open Access:
http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00190-011-0444-4
The Open Access option allows anyone to retrieve the full
article for free and without subscription to the Journal.

that falls right during the MARLS conference. Hope there is an additional opportunity to view it.

I do believe that NGS has been archiving most of their webinars.
Thanks Loyal.
i always have a difficult time finding the webinar pages at NGS.

They're webinars are fantastic. They usually record the power point with audio and after they answer the questions asked by audience members, (a week or so) they post the whole thing on the web.
Loyal - thanks for posting this. I highly encourage anyone using CORS to try and participate - not just listen - ask questions. Dr. Sella and Dr. Griffiths are awesome at what they do and the need for this multi-year solution is well understood, but it will have a impact on existing networks, both active and passive. An important part of this will be hearing from the users as to how NGS should address the passive control networks published as part of the National Spatial Reference System. Please pass this info along to friends and colleagues who do not post here.
For those that can't attend it will be archived along with the other webinars we've done and will be posted to -- http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/corbin/past_classes.shtml
Study materials for upcoming webinar
Howdy,
For those wanting to study up for the upcoming webinar, check out this NGS report to the FGCS:
Status update for the NGS multi-year CORS reprocessing effort
Including summary of processing strategy updated velocity field and main use of solution at NGS NAD 83 position changes.
There will be a test.
Cheers,
DMM
(just joking about the test)
