A new survey happening to determine height of Everest. Need death defying survey tech to carry 100lbs pack of GPS and batteries to top of the world.

It's all baloney until we know the geoid separation there.

Lots of publicity, zero science.

Hey T.P.,

I thought Derek and RADU had already solved this nuisance a few weeks ago?

Hmmmm, maybe Kent wouldn't loan them his clinometer.

Have a great week.

Talk about a pin cushion! You'd think by now we would know the height! It's simply is as tall as it is...

Placing a number means nothing, as Cliff alluded to in his post.

But hey, it sounds like fun!!

Well if one is to believe all the shows I've seen about plate techtonics, the Indian plate has been colliding with that area of the Asian plate for millions of years thus thrusting up the Himalyas constantly. The heights of all those peaks have been rising for a really really long long time. Vertical thrust is about 1 cm a year if I recall. I would imagine K2 does the same.

The biggest debate that is brewing is whether to accept the elevation of the actual rock or to accept the elevation of the ice on top of the rock as the height of Everest.

All they have to do is run a level loop across the mountain and it would be done. 😉

My Dear Friend -

Kent's clinometer is in for its Spring oil change and grease job.

In due course, once he has finished collating the peach tree petals from his family orchard for further processing, RADU and I will begin strenuous negotiations for the lend thereof.

Our main concern is as Austin only has one season, will Kent know when to stop collating ?

Remaining YOS,

TNAI
