The same job with the unset monuments has this beauty:

stuff happens:-(
I go with the Ted Dura theory. He always was for smokin a jay on the job!
I don't do much sectional work. What is going on in this sketch and why is he wrong?
Looking again is he just ignoring the monuments?
Hey, it's on a line! Not the right one, but sheesh. Lighten up. LOL.
The monument at the southeast corner could not be set so a witness was set. Whoever stake the quarter corner put it on a line between the southwest corner and the witness instead of the section line between the south corners.
When they ran line, they held the witness corner 200' north of the section corner, so the line got skewed at the 1/4. All the other monuments are fitting within a few feet, then this one shows up. What to do with it is the only issue. 🙁
I am aware of case similar to that with one exception. It wasn't a witness corner, it was a goat stake. The miscreants were informed of their mistake so they then found and accepted the monument at the correct location. The problem is that they had set a quarter corner on-line and half distance to the goat stake. They DID NOT go back and move the proportioned corner to the true proportioned location. Their client, DOT, did not complain.
