Surveyors Indicate What Is Important
How many are concerned about both, or neither?

Then and now, I am concerned about you.
As Well You Should
Just a simple fact of Statistics.

I've used the graphite 925 since my drafting course in college. Awesome pencil.
Surveyors Indicate What Is Important
Sorry if the topic is inappropriate, but I imagine that for the last 500 subjects on land surveying, there have been only two on mechanical pencils.
From now on, whenever I start a topic that is not survey law related, I will forewarn you by putting the topic in the "subject line".
(P.S. on a serious note, I didn't mean to put this in "Land Surveying" Category. That was an error.
Depends on how one defines affordable

No need to apologize, Tom. I moved it to Land Surveying since it's an appropriate place for it. A mechanical pencil is a surveying tool, as far as I'm concerned, and many surveyors would likely want the same advice and/or information.
That looks nice.
I like the "Look" of the rotring 800, better. That is the one I was referring to as being too expensive @ $52. I would pay that for one maybe if I was certain I wouldn't lose it. I was looking at getting one that is of similar quality at a lower price, where I wouldn't be as pissed @ myself if I lost it. @ some point I think you're paying for the name.
(I say I like the look of the above pencil, but I have never used one.)

Okay, thanks Wendell. I didn't know that it was moved. I have no problem with wherever it goes.
Pentel model P205 - the Surveyor's choice
Down in my neck of the woods, the Pentel P205 is the only mechanical pencil I have ever seen used in the field.
The graphite 925 is my choice of mechanical pencil.
Faber-Castell TK-matic
This one is my absolute favorite. I use other, cheaper ones, of course, and they don't last long or perform well. I can, and do, lose and break them.
I bought it after being frustrated with my other pencils, but come to think of it. this one ended that.
The Faber-Castell TK-matic can be told by weight and feel. It is heavy and solid. Where your fingers grip is a perfect surface, never slipping.
Sorry about the size, don't know how to edit it.
I think I paid $25. I see with some interest that these are not only made any more, but fetch a premium on eBay:
Here's a pencil guy's web site (love the internet): Dave's Mechanical Pencils
Red Kohinoor mechanical pencil http://leadholder.com/lh-draft-kohinoor_us-5611.html is my choice as when I drop it I can usually find it.
Cheers,
Derek
