How do you guys go around of measuring stockpiles of sand/dirt?

I need to measure +- 15 stockpiles of sand on a construction site.

At the moment I take a GNSS receiver, crawl on the stockpile, measure and afterwards calculate in Civil3D the volumes...?ÿ

Other/Better suggestions? I don't have a drone available 🙂

Thanks

?ÿ

You need to be careful being on sand piles, I was warned about air-pockets that you could fall into.?ÿ I would use a total station with reflectorless if I did not have access to a drone or scanner.

A job made for drones.?ÿ Scanning would be good also.

Ekillo is right - working on stockpiles of sand, especially those with slopes approaching the angles of repose, can be super dangerous. Easy to get your self buried and trapped. At the least you need to have an observer around who can call for help. Google "stockpile safety".?ÿ

You might want to look up @mike-berry; he posted a few years ago about an IPhone APP, that measures stockpiles...

You could probably make enough on that job to get a small program up and running. Pretty simple to get started...

Is there a dealer nearby where you can rent a drone?

When we flew stockpiles someone would outline the base with a heavy line of powdered white chalk.

Don't risk your life climbing the darned thing.

Do you have access to a scanner or reflectorless total station. This would be more accurate and much safer compared to manually crawling up the stock pile.?ÿ
