I was staking curb yesterday, and my Leica RX 1250 fell again, and this time cracked the screen. Genius on their part to make the rod point bevel just sharp enough to stick in the ground most of the time, but as we all know, not always.
It still works - sort of - but it may be time to start thinking about fixing this thing or a different unit. Which is it?
I am on a TIGHT budget, and can't spring for many grande.
Any help or advice on this?
If you are using it to run an ATX1230 you have no option put repair. The ATX will not will not work without the firmware found only on the 1250. I think it is around $400 for part and labor to replace the front of the unit.
On a side note, it is a hard to blame Leica for you not making sure the rod was secure before you let go of it.
There have been an intermittent but fairly steady "stream" of these on ebay.
They were selling for about 1,300.00 to 1,500.00 with the case.
Otherwise, they were part of a group purchase. Sold under "Leica surveying equipment" or under "data collector" headings. If you do an advanced search and choose completed listings you'll see what they have been selling for (or
passed over for.)
I've been told that there are a lot of varieties of 1250's; mine happens to run both a total station and 1230 GPS antenna (which I'd like to upgrade to GNSS), and most of these on eBay just run GPS. On top of that, it's unclear what the model differences are.
As a side comment, it's hard to believe that some of these now superseded units are coming out of the closet (probably literally) and they are put on eBay for the incredible prices they were probably bought for 10 years ago. Not to mention they are GPS only, no TS capability.
wfwnezel,
There are 4 kinds of RX1250 controllers and all will run both the total station and the ATX1230 receivers. The RX1250T models have the internal total station radio. The RX1250's will only work with System1200 instruments and receivers and for robotics will only communicate with the RH1200 radio handle.
Models:
RX1250X - RX1250 with touch screen - monochrome display
RX1250Xc - RX1250 with touch screen and color display
RX1250T - RX1250 with touch screen - monochrome display with internal robotics radio
RX1250Tc - RX1250 with touch screen and color display with internal robotics radio
The RX1250X and RX1250Xc can connect to the TPS1200 total station via a cabled connection.
Any RX1250 can run the ATX1230 (GPS Only), ATX1230 GG (GPS and GLONASS) or the ATX1230 PLus GNSS. You need to have current versions of software to run each different antennae. The last firmware for SYstem1200 was 8.71 which would use any of the ATX1230 antenna models.
I did check some of the eBAY procing and I agree. MOst of what I saw is priced as though the units are only a few years old. Most of them are overpriced.
I have a used one with a new touch screen/front panel. The main board went bad right after having the screen replaced. It is not a robotic model, so it does not have the antenna sticking out the top. If it is the right unit we could swap it on to yours for around $500. I also have the rest of the rover and would sell the entire thing for around $1500 total. The clip is in bad shape, AT&T modem without antenna, no batteries or charger. You are welcome to contact me directly with questions.
