Had a conversation with an individual who has done some work with a "brokerage". He was contracted, of sorts, to perform the field work on residential boundary (mortgage) surveys. The flat fee offered to him as $15 per survey, using his own equipment and vehicle. He only did this a few times and only stopped as he found it difficult to collect even that fee and admitted that he wasn't even remotely approaching meeting he minimal technical standards for our state. Not sure that he even knew how to. None of his "field notes" were ever questioned.
How can a Licensed Surveyor state the work was done under their direct supervision when the haven't even met the person(s) performing the fieldwork or the person drafting the survey???
Just my rant... for today...
15$.....???? Why the hell would you even agree to that price? He needs his head checked. You couldn't even buy gas to go to the job site for that!!!!
> He needs his head checked.!
ditto.
$15? I guess there isn't much work 'round those parts.
I would find more satisfaction picking up $15 worth of aluminum cans than to concede that my professional services are only worth that amount.
:good:
Amen
You could make more fishing!

How can a licensed surveyor read that, then post as if the $15 man was licensed?

I wish the state boards would outlaw these "clearing houses" and all those ding-dang "National Survey" firms.:-@
We had a situation similar to that.
Jackleg offering "field crew services". He called a bunch of us NCSS Chapter members seeking contract work. It was quickly apparent that he was not registered, but could provide a stamped survey.
So we(the NSSS chapter)ordered a simple lot survey, got the stamped survey. Dropped dime.
I had to testify at the BOR hearing where the Surveyor lost his license. A rugged thing to see.
The jackleg? Nothing happened to him. I think he found an easier way to F-over the public.

Definitely not a fun thing to do JB, but we do what we have to do to protect the public. It hasn't happened very often, but our chapter has reported people in the past.

Dang ... I heard the going rate for a contract party cheif in Florida was $75/job, using your own gas/equipment/truck, etc.
I was called by a lady a couple of weeks ago that was questioning the location of a pin flag set on her side of the fence when a mortgage survey was performed on her neighbor's house a couple days prior. Once I got out there, I could clearly see that only one corner on the neighbor's lot had been dug up ... the other corners had pin flags but the ground was completely undisturbed. I got out the shovel and cut through roots and thick grass to take out a plug. The location of the pin flags was 0.5' to 1' off of the underground monument location. At the location that was being questioned, I found the rod on the other side of the fence ... my theory is that the "surveyor" found one corner, pulled the fiberglass tape around the lot setting pin flags, then fudged the house location onto is notes ... some "office surveyor" is going to rubber this guy's work and claim it was done to MTS.
Sad but true. That's the state of the mortgage survey in Florida these days, and I'm supposed to compete with this.
Just another example of our great leadership in Florida. Property and section corners are being destroyed by road resurfacing and new sidewalks and you have these survey brokers producing this garbage and the state board and society sit blindly and do nothing.
I'm not clear on your statement.
We are using this adage: "We aren't the cheapest surveyor and don't care to be. If you desire a professional survey at a reasonable fee, that's us". And then politely inquire if "they" are the cheapest in their particular field. 😉
