I made a tripod

A couple weeks ago I noted here that I had bought some new toys - including a Wild T-4. Unfortunately it did not come with a tripod. So I decided to make one.

Here's a picture of what a real Wild T-4 tripod looks like:

Here's picture of the T-4 sitting on my tripod. Now I can really play with it.

Nice work! What kind of wood? And did you do the head fabrication yourself, or farm it out? (That good-looking wood drew my attention, and at first I didn't notice the custom aluminum tripod head.)

The wood is Oak that I actually harvested myself. Did all the planing and finishing.

I did all the machine work myself as well.

The only thing I didn't do was the welding.

Good job Dave. Those t-4's are heavy.

Nice work Dave.

When the excitement of the T-4 wears off and you have buyers remorse just box it up and send it to me, I'll even chip in $3.78 for postage.

Have a great week! B-)

Looks great. Norm Abram at the New Yankee Workshop would be jealous.

Thanks for the kind words

I really enjoy doing projects like that. I figure my retirement in a couple of years is going to be spent repairing and restoring antique instruments.

In the meantime, there's an open invitation to stop in and we'll pull out some of the toys and let you have some hands on with them. Or you might catch me at one of my workshops where you actually get to use some of the antique equipment.

Thanks Angel - but it is rather specialized and will only work with a T-4. I had fun making it.

I see that the tripod head has recesses for the levelling feet. What holds the monster to the head of the tripod? Standard type attachment as for the smaller instruments?

Beauty... the fact that you harvested the wood and turned it into this is way cool ...
