"We've been able to save most of your painted offsets..." proudly said the number one grader guy on site. Later as we set a stake to replace the painted mark, he says "No, it's over here on this slab of asphalt" as we stake the offset point ten feet away from its present marked position on said slab.

My all time favorite save was the pillar of dirt they left in place.?ÿ We asked them to preserve the trav point and the cut about 5-6 feet of dirt all around and left this perfectly preserved pillar of dirt that if we occupied would collapse in about 20 seconds.?ÿ Thanks :-/

?ÿ

Working on a big construction site, contractor said they did not need us the next day, and I knew they were working around one of 3 main CPs.?ÿ I told the dozer guy to make sure he saved the CP.?ÿ It was in a fill area and it would not mess with their operation, and I told him I would sleeve it and bring it to the surface for later use.

?ÿSure enough, came back a couple days later to having the rod, concrete monument well surround with cap all laying at the door of the office trailer.?ÿ Well I guess he 'saved it'.?ÿ It is still lying behind my garage if you want to use it.

Since we are on the subject.?ÿ I have had a project manager hand me a disturbed control point in the form of an uprooted PK nail...stating "here, I know you want this back.?ÿ It has coordinates on it right?" ???®?ÿ

This looks to me to be a job that requires a lot of documentation to keep from being back charged for staking stuff out "wrong".

I had a contractor tell me once; your 20' offset stake is off (it's at the top of a 1:1 slope). Here, Ill show you. He hooks his 25' box tape to the TOP of my lath and walks down the slope and says see, it's at least 23 to 24 feet to where it should be.

I just shook my head...

@dgm-pls

I have written here before about the time they cleaned away that "pillar" on me and replaced the monuments "in exactly the same place" afterward. It looked good, too.
