After 42 years I finally found a perfect Section line!!

The line common to Sections 33 & 34, T 17 N, R 16 E, Gila and Salt River Meridian, as monumented with brass caps by the GLO in 1917, is 5280.00" long! (it's 0°01'11" out for bearing - but we're gonna let that slide!)

You forgot to apply the combined scale factor!

Actually according to the plat the record bearing is N. 0d 02' E. which is rounded to nearest minute.

You don't say which way your line fell. The platted bearing is GLO's attempt at dealing with convergency by keeping all the N-S lines parallel and to keep lines parallel on true bearing they have different bearings. Looks like they are trying to run parallel to the west boundary of the township. So it could be even closer...

Sounds like you both found the same wrong answer from an alternate parallel universe from another time zone.

Seems like time to buy some lotto tickets Jim. The crescent moon is smiling on us.... 😉

OMG!

Well Jerry - I'm glad you looked. I mis-read the plat bearing (looked at the west side of the Section) as N 01' E. We measure N 02'11" so we really find it to be within 11"!!! Pretty amazing what those old boys could do! And they did the whole Township in 5 days!

Is that grid or ground distance?

Are you sure you used American Feet?

OMG!

Still a lot of luck, but perhaps a good indication of the capabilities of the solar transit in the hands of a diligent GLO hand.

This has all been a dream, like J.R. Ewing's brother in the shower.

OMG!

with deep respect, Jerry, calling that luck is a dishonor to the son-of-bxxxx, a__hole of a party chief that must have led that crew. Someone was danged meticulous. I understand what you mean, they weren't capable of 0.01' and 11" with the equipment in use, but to even get close took a lot of work I'm sure. Heck of a way to finish a Friday.
