Helpful neighbors that provide good information can be great
HOWEVER, helpful neighbors who provide information I could have found without assistance while keeping a constant stream of talking going can be trying. Especially for someone who is not particularly a people person.
Boy howdy! Occasionally you will discover the capstone to the entire project from a helpful neighbor so you are sort of obligated to listen but it can go on and on. There was a client up my way, Edna was her name and she wouldn't draw a breath for 45 minutes so as not to interrupt herself talking. She wore out a surveyor so he recommended her to me. I lasted longer but eventually I recommended her to another surveyor who sent her back to me, then I sent her to another friend who eventually got the job and kept her much to his dismay. And she didn't even really need a survey. Just someone to talk at.
I was digging and probing for the rebar I knew was a foot north of the fence corner when a very helpful person told me they had moved the fence last year. Now that never crossed my mind.
While back I was looking for a section corner and found it in a drive way when a man came down asking what we were doing. I pointed to the section corner and said I need a measurement to it for my survey. He then asked if I was interested in the other section corner and pointed to another BLM monument about 30' away that I had not seen. Long story short, BLM did a re-survey and determined that the driveway had disturbed the original monument and so they set a new one, 30' away, which didn't fit a single parcel along the entire section line. I really wish he hadn't pointed that new monument out to me.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
