Geodimeter 650, running with the Geo Orange CU.

Okay, not sure if it's me, the robot, or both of us having a brain fart. On a survey today, setup no problem, staked out a few points, measured some, then while staking another point, it just stopped finding the prism. Batteries seem to be charged, lights blinking, but will Not lock on the active 360 prism.

Any thoughts on what might be going on?? :-S

Sounds like either the tracking mechanism in the gun, or the prism went bad. I had a prism that blinked (the little green lights) but still wasn't emitting the signal it looks for. Do you have an extra "brick" prism you can use to trouble shoot with, and see if it's the prism or the gun?

One other thing occurred to me on trouble shooting the 360 prism... hook the prism up to a power source and take it into a very dark room, like a closet, and see if it glows red. If not, it's the prism that's dead.

Hi Andy,
I have had a similar problem in the past and narrowed it down to weak/almost dead radio batteries and or radio interference.
Jim

Dang TPR, why'd you have to be so right?? Oddly enough, I have a backup 360 that I forgot about. (a fellow surveyor dropped it off with some odds and ends to see if I wanted to buy them) So, I set up in the office, sure enough, no red lights in the prism and no tracking. Turned on the backup, Bingo!! tracking and red lights. I guess in the field I've never noticed the red, just the little green diode that blinks .

So, looks like I'm buying this equipment from my buddy!! But don't tell him that I actually need it now, he'll think about raising the price.

Andy

On my prism that went bad, I opened it up and found that little chip had come loose on the circuit board inside. I took it to place that fixes electronics and they soldered it back on, works good since then. Since you seem to have the same problem (green light, but no red light), it wouldn't hurt to take it apart and see if it looks good inside.

Yes, I've seen that too. Unfortunately, this is worse. Now if I could just figure out how to survey from my office, I wouldn't have to go back out in the blazing heat!

thanks.
