One of mine is sticking somewhat horizontally out of a power pole with the cap still attached.

I never understood why survey monuments are not part of "before you dig" regulations.

Because we don't need monuments; it is all on the computer, courtesy of the local GIS!

if only this sarcasm was not true..........

As a contract city surveyor, both of "my"?ÿ cities have a pre permit clause where I view the proposed trench work and make a determination whether or not the work will destroy survey monuments.?ÿ?ÿ

Is yes,?ÿ the owner o or contractor must supply a corner record or reliable swing ties to nearby monuments.?ÿ ?ÿWe've had great success with monument preservation?ÿ ?ÿ

I've found a few tied to the corner posts or used as the tightener, aslo just laying nearby.?ÿ I think they want to put their fence corner post at the corner so they just dig it up and put the post in.?ÿ I found a 1914 GLO witness corner post and cap tied to a corner post last year that had come out of the road.?ÿ At least some one though it needed to be kept.?ÿ I would have rather dug it up in the road.?ÿ The next one along the road had been dug up in the road and reset along the side.?ÿ They had it 180 degrees out of rotation.?ÿ Did they do that on purpose, don't know, no record that I could find?

I had MY rear lot corner dug up by a neighbor when he planted a fence post (not even a corner post).?ÿ Luckily I still had all the control in place so I just set a 12 inch long bridge spike in the top of the fence post and nailed stakes to all four sides marked Property Corner.

Andy
