Mr. YAwn,

I've been making flat maps for years.
Paper is flat.?ÿ

OK, if the Earth is flat, then where is the edge?

It's wayyyyy over there.
I've worked in several "remote" areas where the standing joke was;
It isn't the end of the Earth, BUT you can see it from there!

FlatEarth people's poop must follow them around and stay with them because by their thinking, there is nowhere for it to go.

Even if Columbus were going to be credited with figuring out the earth were round it would solidly put this knowledge in the science books in the late 1400's.?ÿ
I personally believe that there is sufficient historical evidence that proves that the Egyptians had figured this out well before Christ. I honestly believe?ÿ that some astronomers even average farmers had it figured out well before then....?ÿ Simply look at Stone Hinge and some even some of the earlier calendars Ancient folks used....?ÿ These folks were not as ignorant as a lot of modern people believe.?ÿ
In a century where one can simply just look at the stars and planets all around us through a cheap Walmart telescope..... I don't know if these folks can possibly be that ignorant.... might be they are just looking for attention??ÿ
Regardless of an actual date that some caveman probably came to the conclusion, the earth most likely round... There is plenty of evidence?ÿ we need to clean the gene pool
I have most defiantly seen some surveys where I honestly believe the surveyor thought the earth was flat ;-).....
This topic got me to thinking again about all the geoid models and projections we use to this day....I even know some registered folks that do not seem to know the difference between ground distance, ellipsoid distance and grid distance... You sure as heck cant see any proof of this knowledge by looking through their surveys anyway... Hell I have a lot to learn about certain projections and what the appropriate geoids model to use with certain custom projections.?ÿ I do however see the big picture.?ÿ
On the other end of that spectrum I know other folks that work in these large open mines and other projects that extend 100's of miles and?ÿ underground miners that use custom projections and models?ÿ these folks seem to have a grasp on these concepts that just blows me away .
I have only been around this industry right at 20 years.... but I have seen the methods and software that the average surveyor use's change dramatically in that time... we have gone from shoving a spike in the ground and calling it 5000, 5000, 500. And now days the TSC 3 I use has so many projections and geoid models in it along with the custom ones you can make.... We have truly starting bridging the Gap between what I call trade surveyors such as my grandfather, my father and myself... This industry truly is at a point these guys now days might as well be engineers with all the education you have to have to keep up on this stuff...
Some of these open Pitt mines in Alaska The surveyor's create all the models to feed the equipment then they are in charge of managing networks and communications between the equipment on top of that then they have to keep mine-site and civil 3d drawings up to date... prepare all the cut fill and quantity reports. it is a continuous job keeping the surfaces up to date then the new utilities asbuilt and moving and deleting others...?ÿ
and every single stake that needs to be set in day to day operations of an operation that size... everything from slope stakes to laying out blast patterns.
This all seems pretty normal until you realize at alot of these operations there are 3 or 4 guys doing all those task.?ÿ
I hope I am still part of the industry in 15 years... Its amazing how fast things are moving.?ÿ
At some point im going to hang it up drink beer, smoke some grass, fish and complain that folks still think the earth is round.?ÿ LOL
That's enough to "send you over the edge"!
That's enough to "send you over the edge"!
That's just flat wrong...
I have closed flat before... Does that count?

But seriously, are there really professional surveyors out there promoting belief in a flat earth? Or, are these people posing as surveyors, claiming to be surveyors, but are frauds? Either way, it's a problem that most surveyors I know seem to be unaware of, meanwhile acceptance of this flatearth gibberish is growing with the help of guys like this one.

I know one RLS who enthusiastically believes in a flat earth.
The first time I visited I almost made a serious "unforced error" when I exclaimed "you've gotta be effing kidding me"!
I almost got thrown out of the house for my disbelief. Yeah....it was serious. Why do we only see one face of the moon kinda shit.
Some people are just nuts.
Surveyors are people, therefore some surveyors are just nuts.
