I don't remember seeing this before. Is this commonplace in this day and age?
No. not in this day and age. It was very common during WWII and some period thereafter. All U. S. Patents reserved this in support of the war effort.
No. When in doubt make a notation somewhere. I have seen many a deed back in MI that excluded persons of "negro descent", but I think that all got overturned eon's ago. Still very interesting to run into such dialogue.
Fission? Hmmmm, aren't they working on fusion nowadays. We need Doc Brown and his dog Eienstein to help us get there on our skate boards.
Maybe soon they'll have to reserve rights for fusion-able materials...
