LOL. We live in a rural area where everyone knows everyone and folks tend to have good morals. People take care of their neighbors. You city folks don't have that?
Ummm....
...what's a city?
We do have a decent relationship with the local LEOs. I still am not willing to put my family's safety in the hope that they'll keep their mouths shut. A few can be trusted like that but you never know who you're going to get when you call. The lab may have been hidden when in operation, but now all the junk sticks out like neon if you attempt to walk the prop line. I'm sure it isn't a big secret now. The neighbors also knew the guy who was living in a tent on the property. I think he's the idiot making threats. The realtor called the LEOs but from what I understand they never visited the site. If they had I'm sre I would have been blamed for reporting it. That does bother me. When the dozer showed up to get rid of the mess, the tweeker got his things (and new lab?) and left. The neighbors know who he is if he tries anything.
Years ago when we found a patch of weed growing, I notified the land owner. He asked me to show it to law enforcement so he didn't get blamed for it. We went to the sheriff's department and had to wait forever for them to get a deputy there. The sheriff himself came out to talk to me. He said "next time, to save us from having to call a deputy in, just cut it down and bring it up here". I said thanks but no thanks. That's what we're dealing with around here as far as law enforcement.
To get really quick response
To get the local authorities to respond quickly all you have to do is tell them it is on Judge Brown's property. Maybe it's the County Attorney's place. Just come up with someone they have plenty of reason to dislike. They'll send the entire force and call up the Highway Patrol for reinforcements. Later, after they realize it isn't Judge Brown's property, tell them you said Widow Brown and they must have misunderstood.

You got a law enforcement problem.
If it doesn't show up on my final drawing, I don't say anything until the check has cleared.
The last thing I want to happen is not to be paid because the property was raided and my client went to jail.
Any illegal find is definitely shown on my worksheet in the office and the notes I take in the field with pics of what there is to see.
Afterwards, an untraceable letter can arrive with pics and lat and long of a cook shack or nest of needles or grow site or whatever.
I'm not dialing 911 unless there is a body and/or need of medical assistance.
At one time the locals offered $1k reward for this type of information with assurance of anonymity. Trick was that tipster had to go to city hall and pick up the reward, lol.
Somehow the local newspaper was always able to reveal everything.
That program ended badly with bloodshed and a few cops in prison and the resignation of a city secretary.
Man, that's tough
"..More than likely, they'll self destruct (sadly) if they're
using it themselves."
I wondered about that. I honestly don't know much about it but, isn't the process highly toxic and combustable?
I do know that there had been some old meth lab houses being sold without disclosing this to the buyer.
The health effects from the toxins are severe according to a story of an Oregon family who moved into an
old meth lab home, unknowingly.
> ...I learned over the years that in these parts you don't put your life in the hands of law enforcement. ...
Thankfully, LEO's are trustworthy 'round here. Sorry you can't say the same.

> About a dozen years ago a family friend of mine, a very upstanding guy, stepped outside to break up a fight across the street between some teenagers. One of the kids pulled a gun, shot and killed him. He was doing the right thing in a situation that didn't really concern him.

> Today when I see something going on that is illegal, I ask the question "what's in it for me to get involved?" Perhaps that makes me a coward, my answer is often not the most moral answer, but I believe it is the most realistic. There used to be a time when doing the right thing was a good decision, today criminals are more violent and careless. There are people in this world today who have NO regard for your loved ones or you. I would tread carefully and realize your concerns are legitimate.

> Those meth users will destroy themselves eventually and get caught, putting your family at risk will only expedite their end. I don't see any reason to endanger your loved ones.
One of the biggest problems in this country has always been "what's in it for me to get involved?".
What is in it for you if you and other good citizens get involved?
Less of what happened to your family friend for sure. Also less crime in general, including drugs.
ALL that has to happen for EVIL to win is for good men to stand aside and do NOTHING.
B-)
Dealt with this problem in Mo. for years. The distinction between the cook who is in it for the cash and the cook who is doing it to supply his habit is one you'll figure out one bullet too late. The guy that wants to make money will abandon, find a new spot, throw up another lab and live to cook another day, the guy that's been up 4 days wigging in the woods thinks you are coming after him and his only recourse is to shoot till all movement ceases. We don't hear much about big stationary labs around here anymore, they've all started making small batches using portable labs, so you know those guys are making it to use and just selling enough to cover the expenses for more supplies. Some say the Mexican Cartels have taken their share in this market, along with pot. Big diff between somebody like that and a Missouri hillbilly.
Depends on the nature of the threat. The County I live in is almost like one spread out small town. A lot of the cops who work here, either as city police in the small incorporated city we have, or with the sheriff's department also live here. So knowing someone, or several someones in local law enforcement is about the same as knowing some of your neighbors. If the threat is somewhat general regarding property not in town, I'd tell a friend on the City Department or with the CHP and ask them to pass along the anonymous tip to the sherrif.
If the threat were more specific and my family & property threatened, I won't sit idly by if my family is threatened.
Sounds like a TV show I used to watch. Until it went dark. But that is the nature of that business. So best to just CYA. Be as anonymous as possible. Make sure your family is safe in whatever way is necessary. Best of luck to you and anyone else that has to deal with that c___.
