I'm working on a "hurry-up" ALTA today on a piece of property 150 miles away...thank GOD for Google Earth Street View. I'm surprised by what confusion one or two erroneous feature codes can create.
I'm pleasantly surprised by how quickly that confusion can be rectumfied with Street View...at least this time..(whew)
Google Earth is a great tool for several areas in Surveying. We used it to bid jobs, Plan control over 100 mile transmission lines, and check topo. It's not perfect, but is a handy tool.
Another good use of Google Earth is that you can export your simple line work w/ text out CADD as a KMZ. Real useful when the free imagery in CADD is a few years old (especially when you are to cheep to pay for the 2010 imagery).
What 2010 imagery? The most current imagery we have in Idaho is the 2009 NAIP photography and Google Earth is still using 2003 NAIP imagery for much of their imagery here. (Satellite view my foot 🙂 )
Here in Arkansas. Google Earth is on 2011 USDA Farm Image in most areas.
Great tool,
we use it to prepare and estimate the time it will take to survey.
and great to check sizes of trees, pavements, traffic signs, ...
it has become one of the tools we use almost daily,
Chr.
I use it for Marine Traffic.
😉
You might check; I just looked and sometime in the last few days Google has updated to photos from Sept. 2010 in my area.
I found myself in the field on Patterson between 5th and 4th in Winston Salem NC on street view .
Cool you can drive by the gun setup on the sidewalk.

You can see our pool I painted in Phoenix and on another day...us Surveying in South Phoenix 🙂

Joe-Nathan, I like very much how you spell your name here.
My son Jonathan pronounces it this way to try to avoid this mis-spelling:
Jonathon.
When that happens I tell him to say to people, "my name is not Jonah Thong!"
