And I don't mean US Survey or International either - I'm talking about my dogs barking! Had to stake a fairly large pipe arch culvert w/ headwalls saturday & monday along with multiple curb inlets & FES while wearing wearing knee height muck boots. At this point, my feet are still killing me from all the climbing up/down & through the creek which is unusual for me as I normally get plenty of walking in each day. So I'm wondering what others here are wearing for footwear while surveying or on site doing any staking? I typically wear pull on steel toe boots by Irish Setter (good boots) on sites & muck boots when in/near muddy conditions.
?ÿ
But my feet wouldn't mind something a little easier on them whenever possible - so what's everyone else doing? Maybe I just need some good insoles??ÿ
Definitely get some cushion insoles. They make a big difference.
I've never worked in conditions so muddy that I needed muck boots.?ÿ I just wear a pair of Danners for everything and my feet never hurt.
I normally wear slip-on Red Wing Steel-toed boots.?ÿ When working in the gumbo clay, it has a tendency of sucking the slip-on boots right off my feet.?ÿ I have a pair of Redwing snake boots, waterproof treatment every use and insoles aired out. Easy cleanup with a water hose, feet don't hurt, and most importantly, I don't have to trudge out of the muck missing a boot.
I probably have at least a half dozen different type boots depending on the season and terrain. The problem for me with most muck type boots is no ankle or arch support and in any kind of steep terrain my feet, knees and ankles end up take a beating. After a bout with plantar fasciitis a few years back I started taking that stuff way more seriously. Took forever to bleepin' heal and sucked a lot of the joy out of life. For steep terrain my Scarpas, while spendy, are about the best I've found for as comfort and support. I'll use gaiters with them if deep mud's an issue.?ÿ
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
I'll use gators with them
Gaiters ??ÿ?ÿ You are too north of FL/GA to have gators.
@bill93 Nothing slips by you. I can't recall the last time I had to spell gaiters.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
Danner Super Rainforest for most stuff, they are tall and waterproof.?ÿ I also have gaiters for those times when I'm moving through water close to the boot height, they keep the splash out.?ÿ If know I'm going to be standing deep water I have some irrigation boots in the back of the rig but they offer nothing but projection from deep water.
@john-putnam I know a lot of people swear by Danner, but I will never touch another pair.
Slippery soles, leaked terrible, and eventually came apart inside while hunting and tore my feet up. I still have tender spots two years later. Worst boots ever..
Frogg Togs waders. With wading boots. Not pricey and comfort too.
Spent 1000s of hours in them fishing and hiking while fishing or working along the Rio grande and a few other places.?ÿ Clean off with a hose and doesn't waste your daily boots.
Bstrand.....?ÿ
Like Hc says, you've lived a deprived life, so so sad....
???? ?????ÿ
if no stickers or rip-rap, I wear Keen?ÿ sandals all year round.?ÿ Great for field and office and my feet.
i always liked Altama jungle boots...?ÿ they drain the water right out.?ÿ?ÿ
@jitterboogie love how frog toggs cinch up at the top. Falling in the river isn't a death sentence...
thanks everybody for the responses - gives me some ideas to go with!
