I attended the CLSA webinar yesterday entitled "What you Need to Know to Protect Your Professional Identity and Land Surveyor License", the presenter was Ric Moore from BPELSG in response largely to the nefarious activity in southern CA of fraudulent use of licenses.
I have a good number of new never used "old" aluminum caps, and washers with an older company name and my LS number on them plus a batch that came with wrong LS number and my name. I would like to get these out of my garage, BUT how? Safest would be melt them into a block of aluminium, but I don't have the means to do that. Defacing 100+ caps seems to be very laborious and I would probably end up grinding my fingers or something, LOL.
I could just chuck them in the trash and probably be fine, but prefer to safely recycle somehow.
Am I being paranoid?

What Nate said. Grind off the numbers only, or just chisel and hammer, and use for control. I have my name on my control, along with the word "CONTROL" though.

Send them all to me. I'll check with the Sheriff's department a couple counties away to find the best old mine shaft to pitch them down. There are plenty to chose from but the best would be those partly or totally filled with water. Whenever someone comes up missing for what might be highly suspicious reasons that's where they begin their search. Jimmy Hoffa might be in one of them.

I should of mentioned these are "control" caps already, they have everything correct but the company name, I like leaving a little more professional monument in the ground than one that has been partially defaced and then re-stamped, but that is my OCD. I don't see myself reusing them except as scrap aluminum, mainly wondering how to possibly safely dispose of them.

One of the suggestions is for suppliers to require proof of licensure before filling an order, not sure this will occur uniformly or if at all, BUT I do expect CLSA to start an education campaign with suppliers.

Scrap aluminum is worth about $0.45 lb. If you have a hundred caps that probably weigh between 5 and 7 ounces each you've got about 25 to 30 bucks worth of scrap. Take them to the scrapyard and go buy yourself a good steak and a brew.
We get about $1.55-$1.60/pound for recycling aluminum cans in California. Not sure how the redemption fee we pay upfront plays into that, but I have never had them check to make sure they are California cans.
Yes, I think loading them up and going to scrap yard is the answer. I need to figure out where that is, nothing local except recycling with the trash, I don't trust that, too many chances of taking a walk.

Place them on the ground near grade stakes on a construction site. You will never see them again.
