Yes, you're right. I tend to be longwinded on first draft. That's the way my feeble mind works. If I leave it overnight, a lot of words get deleted or reworked the next day. I didn't have the luxury of time this time.
The reply to my first message basically said, you can't tell them that they're wrong.

I used to carry an 8 count box of crayons and a big chief tablet. Anytime I tried explaining something to someone on a job and they just refused to understand it, I would ask them if I needed to get my crayons and color them a picture of it. nobody ever took me up on it.

One of my former employers had what he called the 24 hour rule. When someone made him mad, he would wait 24 hours before responding. I wish that I had the discipline to always apply this rule. With a little time, it is easier to state only the facts and not how you feel about what they said.
