What are the main differences other than the GS15 having two batteries and an internal modem/radio? Can they both read GPS and Glonass? Can they both operate as a base and rover as needed?

Tom,
With respect to static observations, it is my understanding that the GS-14 can only log raw data to its on-board memory card when being used with a CS-15 data collector, even though the VIVA software menu shows an option to log raw data directly to the controller. This means swapping out the tiny card after the session or buying the accessory cable to download raw data at the end of the day. i am not sure if the GS-14 is capable of communicating raw data files to the newer CS-20 controller.
The GS-15 can be set to log raw data into the VIVA CS-15, in the background while you're doing GPS-RTN surveys. That's handy for OPUS-RS verifications.
By luck, we never have had occasion to log raw data with a GS-14. I haven't tested this configuration in the field or checked with Leica tech support, the above comments are based solely on a dealer explanation of why it was essential to install a memory card in a GS-14. It seems some GS-14 users followed the VIVA menu and got back to the office empty. 🙂 🙂
Thanks and regards,
Mike

Not the case. The GS14, at least the performance series, can log data to the CS15. The onboard card is nice if you want to start the GS14 with the CS15 and then let it collect static data while you run around doing something else with it. Normally I log raw static data to CS15 when doing control work.
I think the dealer just wanted to sell the more pricey GS15.
