What is everyone using for traverse points gps control etc.  Specifically if you are coming back on a construction site and all that in is Drainage Structures concrete and some curb and gutter. I been thinking about the Bernstein BP markers. Currently we drill a whole in a DI and set a brick nail or small mag nail. What say yall. What have you found to work the best.

For primary control I try to set monuments with a tag of some sort.  My standards are 1/2"x24" rebar with an orange plastic cap stamped 'Orion CNTL' in unpaved surface and Berntsen BP monument stamp 'ORION CNTL' on paved surfaces.  I set the BP points in both concrete and asphalt.  If I think they will not become plow fodder I will set mag nails with washer stamped, you guessed it, 'ORION CNTL'.  If I have ample tagged control points, I will use a Dremel tool cut an '+' in concrete.

Secondary gets mag nails, hubs etc......

@john-putnam so the BP mons. Are you epoxy or that spacer thing like an anchor. I used the epoxy years ago. Worked great out west but not in the south or east. They would pull out.  Also what size drill is required for those BP and the bit.

I use the expansion plug that they come with.  If I think about it, I will back fill them with silicone or tar to help prevent possible freeze / thaw action.  But to be honest, I have never come across one of them that has moved.

As for the drill, I think the shaft is 1/2" or 12 mm.  I have the countersink bit, well worth the price.  I usually pre-drill with a 12 mm to save the bit.
