I think I posted a picture of these kind of c/l ties a few years ago, but everytime I see another one, they just blow me away..so here they are..
We tie all our Section Corners this way. It would be nice if all controlling monuments were.

With aerial overlays?
I want to know what a surveyor in Beverly Hills was doing with a gin spike in his truck?
Just seems like it was a long ways from a home.
No. We have to file section Corner Reports, with ties. Typically nails in fence posts, trees, concrete posts, etc. Most have the intersection or some other information. It's nice finding an old stone tied 50 years ago, without much effort. During the depression they set concrete witness posts for ties. Many have been lost during road improvements, or farming. Some still stand. We also have tree lines built along section lines. They were planted during the dust bowl days too stop the wind damage.

Not so long; there's lots of cotton acreage in SoCal.
That pic is of gin spikes? I found one of these about a month ago.

Apparently there's not much cotton acreage in TN.
man, i miss the Cl ties of Los Angeles so much. you don't know how good you have it till its gone.
Jim,
Thousands and thousands of acres of cotton over here. These are a common monument in my neck of the woods.:-)

You lucky bustards! Try to follow highway plans from the 1950's with all references noted being things that were removed during construction of the highway. Something like: 10.4 feet NW to chiseled square on hubguard.......when that culvert is to be removed and replaced with something much longer and very different.
Not in Chattanooga.
in Arizona those spikes are commonly called "cotton picker spindles", and often abbreviated on plans as CPS.
CGS's are widely used as survey monuments..can be ordered from survey suppliers..careful of that last 'hit' the head will 'snap off'

Nice to see they are "on-line" now! In the recent past, research requiered going to the City Hall (where the land records are NOT housed) and pay an unreasonably large fee/deposit and only to be "mailed" to you.
Those RICK Engineering guys do good work! 😉
Centerline Ties..WOW! - Kan
The last time I paid for c/l ties at the city of BH, I think they charged me $ 5.00 per 8 1/2"x11" xerox. It is nice they have them online though, but any other plans you may need like street plans or sewer plans you have to pay for those. No idea what BH is charging now a days.

It's a shame that the Rick guys didn't set tangent ties. Those ties are 4 swing ties..more prone to error.
