Hey everyone, wondering what type of file is needed for a control file on Carlson SurvCE. ?ÿIs it just simply a .csv file? ?ÿ.crd file? ?ÿAnd what is the process to load the control file?

Any help is greatly appreciated. ?ÿThank you in advance

I've just used csv or txt files, exported from Carlson Survey.?ÿ?ÿ

Haven't needed anything else, so I haven't looked into using anything else

I'm sure there are other methods.?ÿ Carlson seems to try to accommodate all software and almost everyone's preferences. ?ÿ

In this case, though, it seems like simple is best, so do what you're comfortable with.

I've never used a crd file to import to the DC because I'm usually just exporting my control points and maybe monuments, not all my topo/detail.?ÿ So with a csv or txt file export, I can pick and choose which points to send.

Are you using a separate control file? If so you will need to import a csv or txt (there are about a dozen file types that Carlson can handle) file into the crd format.

If you just want the points in your current job, you can import them into the job directly (again, csv, txt, etc).

Have often used a separate control file, using Carlson in office and field. I would put ƒ??control ƒ?? points in that file, but you are not necessarily limited to that. ?ÿIt could contain ƒ??vettedƒ? points for topo, or just a group of points you want to compare. Itƒ??s pretty easy to experiment with and find out what works. Good luck!

@learner?ÿ

Seems like I used control files back when I was using the old HP's.?ÿ Now I just add points directly to the job.?ÿ Maybe it was easier to overwrite points back then with those.?ÿ I don't know.?ÿ

I haven't seen any drawbacks to having everything in the job file.?ÿ And when processing the rw5 later on, it's easy enough to delete all the SP records

If you're doing stakeout on a subdivision, it can be helpful to have good points in control file, and you can store all the check points, and stake points in daily file....

Whatever cranks your tractor, though! (fires your disto laser 🙂
