When I was an SIT, I was told that you needed to register your signature, seal imprint and your hard liquor of choice. Today, at this point, I only know one surveyor who posts on rplstoday who i know for sure doesn't drink. Not trying to disparage anyone. I'm just more passionate about surveying than anything else.

I have been working on the list backwards. Apparently, the question is how much did those life choices lead to this profession? The other question is, has your shelf of choice gone up or down.

I don't drink. I used to brew my own beer. I gave it up years ago when an 8%ABV imperial IPA I had made beat me into oblivion. I cant remember the last beer I had now.

I gave up the hard stuff 20 years ago because it made me think I was 10' tall and bullet proof.

I dont need alcohol to cope with life's problems... I have a natural I don't give a sh!t attitude.

I don't drink either.
Sometimes I feel like I need to take a sleeping pill. Some nights I can't get a job out of my head. I'm rotating deeds and closing sections in my mind all night long.
I guess I shouldn't complain, I have figured out several problems by "sleeping on it".

I don't drink, but I often joke that I'm considering taking it up as a full time occupation.

I quit drinking and smoking in 1984, at the age of 24, 3 years before getting my license.

Today, my complete lack of social grace and ability to get along with anyone - something I would love to have - is caused by being straight.

I joke about drinking but the honest truth is I avoid the stuff...except for an occasional brewski while watching a Packer game. Alcohol is a touchy subject with most of my family...which is heavily seasoned with drunks, including immediate family members. Being raised by, and around, alcoholics I believe has a lot to do with my cynical sense of humor. My sister and I were the only ones that made it out without the "drinking gene".

I use to be employed at a firm that had a pleasant 'watering hole' nearby. A lot of the field crew members would wind up there of a hot afternoon. Occasionally I would drop in for a cold one. And as they always do; as I would near the bottom of my glass the bartender would ask if I needed another one. My standard reply use to be, "No thanks. I'm just trying to get up enough nerve to call my sponsor." 😉

I had to stop joking around like that. The number of "well meaning" folks that tried to grab me in the parking lot after hearing my joke got a little irritating. And of course when I tried to explain I was merely joking only confirmed their need to 'help me out'. Sheesh.

The first surveyor''s meeting I attended was a kegger at a lake to see, test drive and witness a couple brands of top Mount EDMs.
There is always beer in the fridge & whisky & vodka & wine in the cabinet.
A 12 pack lasts 6mos and half gallon much longer.
One 2 or 3 finger boiler maker works better than prescription drugs to allow me to sleep all night.
1/3 of the beer & wine is used in cooking.
My last drink was memorial weekend.

The Type II diabetes diagnosis finished any thoughts of alcohol consumption. It was a rare treat anyways so it was not a big deal. I joke that I rattle when I walk from all the pills.

Grew up in a world of non-drinkers. My mother wouldn't even drink coffee. Non-smokers, too. So my drinking was an act of rebellion when young, then a social convention in the 1970's in my early professional career. During the 13 years of raising three daughters by myself I could not risk the potential hazards that excessive use might lead to. But, I do have an unopened can of JR beer in the refrigerator from about 1982.

Here's an honest assessment of alcoholism. Although really funny on the surface, it is an insight on William's struggles through the years.

I don't drink either. I can put the amount of alcohol I have drank in my life in a red solo cup. I just don't like the taste of alcohol.

Thankfully I've been lucky enough to keep away from my doctor to avoid that diagnosis. I do monitor my glucose levels with one of those fancy little digital thingies from Walgreens.

Pecan pie is apparently a thing of the past for me....:(

I like IPA and good whiskey. I allow myself one IPA per day or I here from Jameson's Grandma about it, you'd think I was descending into the depths of alcoholic hell ;-). I can't metabolize it as well as I used to so I usually don't want a second one.

Whiskey is a once a week thing at most, I just pour some in a small glass. Daughter gave me a bottle of Redemption Rye for Fathers Day, that stuff is good.

Pops only drank once a week also. He started on Monday mornings and finished on Sunday night....;)

Funny story:

Pops got to the point he had to hide his likker bottles from Momma in the garage. We boys didn't like that too much because that's where we would hide when he was on a bender...

He stumbled in the garage one day tearing stuff up looking for a bottle of vodka he thought he had hidden there. He started accusing Holden and me of stealing it. Holden reached up on a shelf and showed him a half a bottle of Jim Beam that Pops had apparently hidden and forgotten about. Holden asked him "Is this it?"

Pops reply: "No, but that will do."

...guess you had to be there...;)

I gave it up 29 years ago. No regrets. I still like the taste of beer though, so I drink a Beck's NA pretty much daily.

It's the American way overdo everything, nothing in moderation.

Coffee is my real vice, I love coffee.
