I have the Brother MFC9840 CDW with the optional paper tray. I'm generally very happy with it, but I notice that when it runs out of paper in one tray, it automatically swithced over to the other tray, instead of stopping an signaling it's out of paper. So, I get a few elevation certs on legal size, and some legal sized drawings on letter, etc ... seems like a dumb program setting I should be able to override, but I can't find a setting in the menu, or a suggestion via google. Anyone seen this with Bother all-in-ones and have a suggestion?
Thanks.
See if there is some setting that needs to be changed. Mine doesn't do that. It beeps to signal that the tray is out, I fill it up and press [start] to continue. I have letter size in the top and 11 x 17 in the bottom and it hasn't switched over yet.
As I recall, there is a setting for which tray you want to use:
UPPER
LOWER
or ANY.
It sounds like you have ANY set.
"Hard Code" it to UPPER or LOWER and when it runs out, it will let you know.
Ok, I'll look into that. I did go through the menu and assign legal and letter to the right tray when I got it, and it's been good about picking the right paper to begin with, it just switches over when it runs out. ...
Yeah, we have an HP Officejet 7700 that did exactly the same thing.
I mean, if you have a dual cassette printer, why would you want it switch??
No help from the 'manual' and it took a few emails to tech support to get the right configuration set.
Morons, say I....
AUTO not ANY.
