Sunday morning = 2 F
Sunday afternoon = 13 F
Sunday night = 2 F

Snow/ice/whatever arrives on Saturday in the one to three inch range

By Tuesday afternoon we should have a high of 45 F

My coworkers 40 years ago in Michigan could not understand the concept of 40 to 70 degree swings in a day or two. Sometimes in only a few hours. They were overwhelmed with the lake effect moderating such things along the shores of the Great Lakes.

There's a warm front lifting briefly from the south and it just passed over us here in Norman about the time the sun went down. The temp had dropped to about 28 degrees and as the warm air rode over the cold we had a freezing mist and black ice event. I just heard on the tube there were 80 weather related accidents during rush hour.

When I put the truck up behind the gate about an hour ago there was ice on the fences. Luckily the temp should rise above freezing in the next couple of hours. Tomorrow will be a moderately warm day for us and then, as you mentioned, the bottom drops out of it. There's gonna be some ice on the pump handle for a few days for sure.

I just talked to relatives in Milwaukee. It's colder'n a well digger's lunch up there and they've got a snow event coming. We're scheduled to be up there soon and I'm not looking forward to it. I was up there a year ago and the 'high' was -2. Guess I'll get my good wool socks out of the drawer...

We've been having bad days quite often this year, but today is the baddest.

-20 air temp with wind, so maybe -40 chill factor. I know we aren't the only ones. Stay in today:(

Only 13å¡ when I woke up this morning, but has dropped to 11å¡. Was out for about an hour yesterday, and it was bitter to the bone as we were in a very open area doing recon for RR spikes. Will remove asphalt on a warmer day, because yesterday it felt like concrete. I misjudged and left one layer in the vehicle and decided to tough it out.

I had GPSed on Wednesday, and yesterday laid in 4 orthophotos. Have overlain two deeds and will read and enter more today. Inside work today and snow expected for the weekend.

It is beginning to look a lot like "Whatever it is we are allowed to say."

On the news around here (last night or this morning, I forget), Concord NH hit a wind chill of -31. The first few years of my surveying career in NH.

Wind chills around the Baltimore MD area yesterday were hovering around 8 degrees. So glad I have an inside job for days like that as well as the nasty hot/humid

When I bought my present car a few months ago, I noticed it had heated seats. Gut reaction was "oh, I'll never use that feature". Sales person countered that I would. As of yesterday (and this morning), she was proven correct.

And on Earth, peace to men of good will.

48 deg temp change in a day predicted here for Sat/Sun. Fairly common
Going from 79 to a following morning low of 31

It's cheaper to run the A/C's than than the Heater's. 😉

Aren't window unit A/C's less efficient than central air? I have window units and I remember using less electricity during the winter unless it gets really cold (like yesterday and today)

It's the opposite up here, at least if you heat with gas. It's a helluva lot cheaper to keep a house warm in the winter than cool in the summer.

Well, if that's all you're looking @, then move up north. You can have free cool air by just opening the windows.

I understand lighter fluid makes good gun oil for sub-zero temps. A good cleaning and re-oil would be appropriate once back indoors of course....once your hands thaw....

A few years back my wife was shooting as sub for me when it was -14å¡. She was shooting her old 870 and couldn't feel the shells as she tried to load the gun so she just tried to roll them into the chamber. She had about 5 shells on the ground and didn't know it before someone said something. She doesn't shoot in the winter much anymore.
