the stress of getting this one out the door woke me up early this morning.?ÿ had the coffee ground and the water boiling and sat down to the laptop at 5:45 a.m.?ÿ aside from the 45 minutes driving a couple 8th graders to school, i think i stepped away four times- three of those to take a leak and once to warm up last night's pizza for lunch.?ÿ just emailed off the prelim for review about 10 minutes ago.
by my count that's a net of, oh, 13.25 hours of drafting and examining title today.?ÿ i know for some of you that's S.O.P., and i know some dudes who've done it like this for years (oh wow, that just made me realize- good buddy who was one of them died 9 years ago today).?ÿ but i'm sorry- i hope this never gets to be more than about a semi-annual event for me.?ÿ if that.
at least the fee will buy a few beers...
you are getting stressed over 13 hours of work?
uh, no.?ÿ?ÿ
sitting on one's kiester staring at a monitor for 13 hours straight sucks.?ÿ maybe not for everyone, but certainly for me.
i have more 13 hour days on the horizon than i can count.?ÿ and i'll take 'em.?ÿ because the vast majority of them are going to be days outside.?ÿ you know- working...
45 minutes with 8th graders can take a toll on one's mental attitude. ???¦?ÿ
It's been the worst day since yesterday. Flogging Molly
?ÿThat song always helps me feel better along with copious quantities of good beer or bourbon.
Band name is Flogging Molly, the name of the song is; It been the worst day since yesterday.
Stress Factor Equation:
13 hours field time=2 hours office time
more or less.
Every day in the field is better than any day in the office.?ÿ

Ice.?ÿ Drizzle.?ÿ Ice.?ÿ Drizzle.
Depends on which side of 32F is happening at the moment.?ÿ Mrs. Cow received a phone call at 5:35 a.m. announcing school had been cancelled for the day due to extreme ice conditions.?ÿ It was nice to have a warm breakfast prepared and delivered to me at my work station (ratty old desk).?ÿ Certainly glad I had the forethought to feed the cattle well late yesterday afternoon.?ÿ The new calf that arrived three days ago is learning quickly the difference between 60F and 31F.
Evaluating evidence and expessing it on a map can be reqarding work. I feel sorry for folks that can't see that.
Enjoying what?ÿ you do starts with recognizing value and deciding to find a way to like it. If you can't do that hire someone that has. Anything less is a waste of a life..?ÿ?ÿ
Never post immediately after having your eyes dilated. That was bad even for me.. 💡
It's not the drafting that is causing your suffering, it's your reaction to it.

Spoken like someone who has never tried working on the plains of North Dakota in howling -10 degree, 40 mph wind.
If there's one thing I've learned the hard way over the years it's that I don't need to trash my body in the elements just to appreciate being alive.
I agree. The fieldwork is great for staying fit but I personally don't find endless satisfaction in cranking out 10,000 topo points a day. The real satisfaction comes from doing all of it.
There has been some office personnel that comes to mind that makes circumstances such that I would have rather been out on a day such as you speak of than anywhere near those backstabbers.
I spent most of the afternoon on Friday doing bookkeeping. This isn't a volume shop so very seldom are there any $200-$500 checks coming through the mailbox. But, for some reason this was the week for those.
I also had a court case with multiple family members who had to pay a share each, then some of the families were split in 1/2 so it was 9 checks to pay one bill. The court had agreed to pay the bill in full but one attorney decided it would be quicker if they all paid me instead. So I got 9 checks for one invoice and of course they don't add up to the invoice amount, easy to reconcile if it's an underpayment, not so easy if it's an overpayment, which of course it was. Anyway, I filled two deposit slips (never done that before) and spent over 2-1/2 hours doing transactions, closing out invoices, reconciling overpayments and two interest payments, getting it all in the bank which of course is the fun part, making copies of all the info, filing it all away, closing out the books for my accountant, then going through time sheets, running out statements, checking over AP and WIP.
For the entire afternoon I didn't do much surveying work, just business, which of course means I'm in the office catching up this weekend.?ÿ
As much as I like doing survey work, even in the office, the field is where all of us in this shop want to be, way less stress, I know exactly what Flying is saying.?ÿ
