Just got back from the remote fishing village of Akutan .... basic easement stakeout .... here's some photos from along the way..
Normally a one way trip to Akutan takes somewhere in the vicinity of a few days because of weather, fog, mechanicals but this gig saw me and Cameron go in on one day and come out another without any weather delays...it's a first
Awesome pics Daryl!!! [as usual]
Your Goose sort of reminds me of a smaller version of the PBY-38 Catalina.
Say howdy to Sig and the boys next time you're in Dutch Harbor.
Wow!!
You done fell off the edge of the world. Did you see any sea serpents like they show on the really old maps?
"Here there be Dragons" 😉
@Daryl: Your photos, videos, and commentary document wild and woolly people, places, and things most of us will never see in our lifetimes, ESPECIALLY at work! Terrific stuff, and thanks for sharing. :good:
And I suppose you're going to tell us ....
that you actually get paid to do this! You've got one heck of a gig going here.
Once again, beautiful photblog.
And thanks for keeping us updated on your survey wandering in AK
The Goose is just incredible.
It reminds me of a real old aluminum Grumman 8’ dinghy (yacht tender?) that I bought out of the classifieds in New Orleans in the 80s.
It was like a work of art and I never found a use for it.
I used it twice for surveying. Once was to drag along a river at low water for a survey. Put all the equipment in it and dragged it down the river over sand and gravel bars. It saved a lot of time.
The other time , I tried to use it on water but it was too tipsey for me.
The pictures of the Goose reminds me of it. It had so many rivets and the aluminum was indestructible.
The hull of the nose of the Goose looks a lot like that old dinghy. I think it was made in Long Island.
I sold it too someone here to use on their catfish pond.
I'm so excited!
I finally have high-speed internet so I can see daryl's pictures without waiting!
Great pictures
You must have a great camera with lots of megapixels!
You simply rock the surveying world Daryl.
Thanks for sharing your very inspiring pictures.
Ho hum, just another day at work........
Truly envious of your superb skills, impressive as always.
I, on the other hand, spent the day fishing with my nephew, so I win.
Daryl,
Great pics and video! As always.
I've been picking huckleberries up at Odell Lake
for about 28 years now and have never seen any
as big as some of those you found.
Maybe everything is bigger in Alaska (sorry Texas).
Scott
Looks like you had some nice weather there.
That might be your last trip in a goose, Penn Air is retiring her soon I hear.
I saw it land in Dutch a month ago, beautiful ship.
What project do you have in Girdwood (my home stomping grounds)?
Stunning as always, especially the sun on the water pics!!
Look familiar??
notice the names...this was Kodiak 1997.
Look familiar??

Girdwood is a large DOT topo project ... I'll be hanging in the lodge in the evenings

I can't read the actual name, but it looks like Spirit of ??? and Spirit of ??? 2.
Look familiar??
The black strip on the front edge of the wing, tail markings and accessories on the engines look slightly different. But it could of been repainted.
Very Jealous right now. Looks like an amazing adventure!!
Awesome as always Mr. Moistner, you are the camara master....B-)
Thanks for posting here,
Radar
