When it came to GPS he was THE MAN.
I really should have said "measurement related", not "survey related". If I recall, many tried to pass on an understanding of surveying. I think he was slowly getting the idea that it was not all about measurements and coordinates.

I have a bunch of his stuff saved as well. What a great resource he was.
We had a lot of off-list correspondence regarding coordinate systems of foreign countries. He did a lot of consulting for the exploration segment of the oil patch. It was mainly transformations and parameters, comparing his notes with mine. I had wondered what happened because of the silence and was informed on this list that he had passed away. Nice guy, indeed.

And then he was gone. We may have missed the best of what he could have contributed with that final understanding.
