Still using an HP1000 printer for color 11X17 plots, but I think it's on its last legs.
Any suggestions on what a good replacement would be?
Thanks,
Jim

I bought an HP 7500A Wide Format All-in-One that I am satisfied with. Got it directly from HP when they had the unit offered for $149.00 last August. Will do a 13"x19" size print and has wireless or USB hookup capabilities. Their prices do flucuate when you go to their website and have to catch it just at the right time to be able to find the lower prices. Staples at one time about 3 months or so after I purchased mine did have it for the same price, but their prices also varies at different times.

I thought everybody on this board had a Brother MFC-6490CW!

If not, get one.

Printer, scanner, copy, fax. Up to 11"x17". Color.

And the best part.....under $200.

Someone referred to a Brother model on here a few months ago. I bought it and love it. Can't think of it now though.

Had an HP 7000 wideformat... Completely sucked. Tons of ink clogs (even with regular use) and would not print margins correctly from AutoCAD or PDF printers. Spent Hours trying to work around its driver problems. Threw it away after two years of wrestling with it.

Got an Epson Workforce 1100 a few months ago ... Works perfectly with AutoCAD and no ink problems.

I have an MFC-6490CW Brother. I was able to get a trade in on my old junk printer. I think I only have about $130 invested in it. Get generic ink cartridges. They are way cheaper, and work just fine. I could count on one hand how many times mine has jammed, and I have had it for about 2 years. It isn't as fast as a big expensive one, but for the price it gets the job done and the quality is acceptable. I use its scanner all the time. It works well. You can also scan a piece of paper with text on it, and it will put it into Microsoft word format. Saves a lot of time re typing legals.

There are quite a few threads on this board over the past few months regarding the 11x17 printers. I found the Brother MFC6490 at Staples. It was a refurbished unit for $149. Less than a week after I ordered it, i found it on the Staples website for $99. They issued a credit for the difference. Very plewsed with it, and my buddy bought one also.

The guys on this board posted a link to the generic cartridges. Very good deal

I have an HP 9800 I have been real pleased with. These are only a few years old. You can buy nice, used units very cheaply on ebay.

I just picked up an HP 7500A Wide Format All-in-One on Monday to replace on old HP 5200 laser printer. It does a pretty good job. I am satisfied. It is not for high volume. It was $179.00 at Office Depot.

I am going to second the Brother 11x17 MFC-J6710DW all-in-one printer. Mine does a good job. It does two-sided prints and has two-paper trays. I keep one loaded with 8.5x11 and the other with 11x17. Plus the scanning works great for drafting and archiving. It's also wireless and I have had no issues with that.

Thanks to all who replied. Went with the Brother MFC-J6710DW @ $229 @ PCNation. Wanted to stick with HP (have several HP printers and plotter) but the reviews weren't so good - especially for small text.
This site continues to be a great resource, as valuable as RPLS used to be when I first signed onto it many years ago.
Thanks again.
Jim
