In the early stages of learning Carlson and I'm already liking what I'm seeing. My background has been in Microsurvey CAD with some EaglePoint scattered thru out over the years. I'm just curious what are some great features that Carlson has that you couldn't do with out now?
There are several that make my life easier. Being able to copy from one drawing and paste into another at the same coordinates is pretty handy. Point groups is one of my current favorites, I just didn't use it, but now I do, and found it to have made things go much smoother. It's one of those deals, I just do them now, don't give them lots of thought, so hard to say.
Field to finish line work
Building surfaces when F2F used. Very quick.
only because i hate them so much, carlson kicks out cut sheets better than just about anything else i've used.

this too- if you get your field procedures down and shoot it properly. i've taken our work to the point where, say, if a job were to take a week from front to back, used to be 50/50 on field and CAD. running linework and getting our ducks in a row with carlson and we've got it to about 80/20. don't know about you, but i'd rather spend 4 days outside and 1 inside instead of 2 or 3 staring at a monitor.
Too many to say. The polyline tools are the best. I find the drawing inspector and 3D Viewers very useful. I probably take F2F for granted as I have always had it in one software or another.
I wish the Embedded cad version had a proper 2d line command though. Serious fault in the software in my eyes and it makes no sense to me for it to be left out. I know there are other options but they suck compared to standard 2d autocad line where i can just point the cursor and enter the distance with no extra stupid steps.

3D viewer- definitely. Can qc topo work incredibly fast.
The L/R option on extend makes 2D line work go just about as quick as anything else I've used.
There are so many things, I couldn't pick one. I hate the perpendicular snap.
Everything can be customized to your wants and needs........
I'd say Point Groups and FTF are my top two. There's really too many to mention.
Layer Prefix in F2F
Cut sheet reports, surfaces, CL, Profiles etc...number one software.

What are point groups? We have "smart" layering system set up. Control points on a layer by there self, other features seperate by layers based on code. Curious as to what else we can build off of
Twistscreen
I'll go along with Mr. Karoly and say Twistscreen. I first used it in AutoCAD 10 with Carlson SurvCADD 10. If I recall correctly F2F was also available in 10.

Why did you switch from MSCAD to Carlson?
I havent used MSCAD on a daily basis in 8 years. I havent been a position to where I was required to draft either, just mainly reviewing cad files in LT or Civil 3D. I've been using eagle point on the weekends off and on for a few years. I've decided to go full time and figured I would make the switch to Carlson based on all the good info I've heard
I like the coordinate transformation utility. So handy for comparing survey ties to record information (provided the record calls are pretty tight).
stupid question here. Can anyone tell me how to hand enter points with #,N,E, and description? I have few I'm trying to enter to tonight and cant figure out for the life of me how to do it.
