We have been in business 2 months now and I want to make sure we plan for the future in regards to having a decent GIS in place to locate past projects on a map vs having a detailed indexed project filing system. I considered going the Google Earth route as Ive been using it for years viewing etc but not actually keeping project info but I'm afraid I might regret it in a few years. Is Carlson GIS a good option?

I am looking at the same thing, sort of. I am working on a massive boundary survey, and it is comprised of dozens of parcels, separated by public roads, and one of the deliverables, is a gis database. I am looking at it for numerous reasons. Give Jennifer Dibona (That CAD Girl) a call, and see if you can get a demo. I have watched several videos on the program, and it looks very promising. The price is right also.
