This just started happening a few days ago. Trimble Access, R10-2, TDC600

Start the VRS survey, connects to the VRS, pick the mount point, then after about 10 seconds it says "Communications Error" and stops. Usually I can repeat and it is OK, sometimes it does it twice or more in a row. Doesn't always happen, actually infrequently

I am wondering...is this

1) VRS problem?

2) receiver problem"

3) TDC600 problem?

4) internet problem?

5) bluetooth problem?

I wish the error message was a bit more informative.

I saw this a few times in the past, but a lot more this past week.

Have you asked your trimble rep?

Just a gut feeling, if you're only seeing this with VRS I would bet it's an Internet problem.

If it was Bluetooth I think you would see it more often.

Access "bug"?

We're seeing one regarding the import of TBC .job/.jxl files. Trimble is aware but it showed up with version 5.9 updates a couple weeks ago.

I've had some connection issues in specific spots, because of nearby devices emitting a lot of signals.

Once, I was setup under a low high voltage wire and the controller kept disconnecting from the total station, it took me a bit of time to figure out what was happening.

On another job, there was a specific spot where the Bluetooth connection would drop because the area was flooded with various signals.

The most recent one was on a construction site where I was close to a live feed surveillance camera array and had consistent connection issues.

Sometimes, just moving to another spot, if that's an option, can solve these random problems.

We ran into such or a simular problem with our TSC7's in a local spot.
Bad 4G mobile internet, using a sim-card from another mobile operator fixed the problem for us.

Does the TDC600 work off the Android OS? A couple of weeks ago we got an automatic Android update that turned our TSC5s into fancy paperweights. Probably not the same issue but here's what our dealer sent us (I sent the DCs to them so I can't help with the fix, sorry):

Do not update your TSC5 to Android 13!

There is an Android update available for the TSC5 to go from Android 11 to Android 13. Do not allow your TSC5 to run this update as it will cause connectivity issues with WiFi and SIM cards. Android will automatically update if you do not follow the attached document to disable automatic updates. Trimble Engineering is working on a fix for this but as of this writing there is none, so please make sure you disable automatic updates immediately.

We believe this effects WiFi and SIM card connectivity only at this time and has no affect on using the TSC5 with a Robotic Total Station or GNSS Base/Rover using radios for corrections.

@murphy Don't Worry!

That update got pulled ASAP - caused WAY too much grief

Now Auto On / Auto Off makes no difference. Not even actively checking for updates.

You aren't being offered it no more.

=J=

(sorry for your troubles)
