A while back we were upgraded to TopSurv 8. We had an issue that I am finally looking at understanding. The simple question: Why can't I put spaces on my codes?
Nevermind, I just ran a search on the site and found several threads on the topic. Now go tell me what that water thing is from my previous post.
Cause you keep surfing GE instead?

Care to share why you can't use a space in the descriptor field? Or a dot for line coding?
I use GE quite a bit to research properties but when I am done I give the world a spin and see where I turn up.
FYI - if you didn't see it in the previous posts. 8.2.3 (the latest, and hopefully last version of Topsurv that I'll ever have to see again) does allow for spaces in the codes if you set it up that way in the configuration.
Also, check to make sure you have only one version of topsurv on your data collector. Topcon says not to do it (have two versions on the same collector), but doesn't tell us why. I think I figured out the why, which is that some of the files cross-pollinate from the old version, which allows old problems to cycle back that Topcon thinks they fixed already.
For example: Something that Topcon "fixed" in version 8.1 was still getting us in 8.2.3, until we realized that whoever it was that upgraded our data collectors hadn't uninstalled the older version first. Of course, this was an issue that took months to diagnose in the first place. After we uninstalled it (which required deleting the files for both versions, reinstalling the new, uninstalling it the correct way, and then reinstalling the new version again), we didn't see that issue anymore.
You'll know if you have two versions by going into your folders and looking for the "TPS" program directory (that is the one you should have with a newer version). If you also have a directory called "TPS Topsurv", that means you have an older version on there as well.
Be very careful with your new version of Topsurv. It works, but there are lots of things that can mess you up, that you normally wouldn't even think to check (or at least I didn't).
YMMV
